I found this reply to another post that reported on De Wever’s comments. It seemed worth adding to this reply chain:

… Just wanted to let you know what’s up. 🤢

I started a reply to you this morning, and started feeling ill. Since we can’t save drafts on 🦋 except for quote-posts, I just tried to leave it open so I could finish it when I felt better.

I don’t feel better, unfortunately. When I came back to my open reply, 🦋 “disappeared” it. It just vanished.

Not sure. There may be additional forces that can be rapidly flown in from units like the 82d Airborne. Perhaps they want to seize Kharg or another island in the Strait of Hormuz. It bears watching anyway.

This must be Putin’s way of celebrating the additional tax revenues he’ll accrue thanks to Trump “temporarily“ lifting the sanctions on Russian oil as he bombs Kharg Island to help drive up oil prices further.

Kidding and venting aside, I hope you and yours stay safe through it all.

@profpape.bsky.social is right, but there’s another key beneficiary of this assault on Kharg Island: Russia. Putin stands to benefit bigly from this questionable escalation. As usual, Trump’s move plays right into meeting Putin’s greatest need — money for his war chest.

I’m sure that the House and Senate Oversight Committees will get right on this! 😂

And some people still ask, “why should I bother to vote?” 🙄

I saw this video earlier today. It’s an everyday occurrence in Ukraine, sadly. This couple was lucky enough to be rescued before a Russian drone got to them. Last month I saw video of another couple trying to escape occupation along the Sumy border. They weren’t as fortunate. 💔

Thanks, Aaron, for giving Ossoff some visibility as he campaigns for reelection. He has good things to say and deserves to be platformed, imo.

I wish their egos were tiny. I think that’s the one thing that isn’t tiny about them. Their hubris puts our troops in harm’s way for trivial or incoherent reasons. That’s my only quibble with your statement. Fragile, vice tiny, might be a better word to describe what you’re getting at.

Trump’s crypto czar, David Sacks, likes to weigh in on issues related to war w/o any experiential background that would elevate his views over those of the average Jane or Joe.

I wonder why that is and why so many choose to platform his views: “Don’t support Ukraine and don’t escalate in the ME.” 🤷‍♀️

Jeet read my mind from when I first heard Trump talk about shooting protesters today. Every day, I remark anew that this or that Trump statement is peak projection. And with each passing day, he outdoes himself once again.

Sigh. Grossi is usually more subtle in exposing his bias than this, or so I thought at least. He’s getting into Guterres territory here.

That too! You’re right.

I hear you. That alpha-male mindset does exist in the military. As a woman who served, I have the battle scars to show for it. But, in my own experience at least, it didn’t predominate. If it had, I would have made other choices.

I was thinking about that as I read your earlier reply. If we could ever recommit to abiding by a rules-based world order, maritime law could probably be updated (as long as the preponderance of governments aren’t run by flaming narcissistic sociopaths).

P.S. I watched Vlad”s video yesterday. I like that he talked about how Trump’s disordered mind plays into what’s happening.

I know what you’re saying, and I do have to “own” that it’s still my government even when it’s running off the wheels the way this one is. Still, Trump’s clearly driving the country into the ground. So I wince when people say it benefits the country. It really only benefits Russia and China. …

Trump, as usual, shows what a small, despicable snowflake ❄️ he is. Nothing can ever top what he has, even when it does.

I think that is part of it. He takes on the Russian viewpoint in all things, and that’s certainly a Russian viewpoint.
