It's more efficient to drive engagement via negatively than positivity. Isn't that Twitter's business model? I don't like it.

Radio ham, SOTA MG, hill walker, coder ... and whatever else has grabbed my attention this week.

29.11.2025 12:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A bit of tropo lift at the weekend so I took a walk up my local SOTA with my 5W handheld and talked to someone sitting in their car 227 miles away, 59 both ways. Now I wished I'd taken the FT-857 and 6 ele beam! Very happy with that contact though.

15.06.2025 09:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also, and quite unusually for me because normally I never win anything, I won a LoRa APRS tracker in the raffle which I'm dead chuffed about!
15.06.2025 09:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fantastic day out yesterday. Firstly, SOTA activation of t Clee Hill for a S2S party, which to me from 999 yo 1008 chaser points. Then onto the annual GW SOTA hog roast which was a blast. Lovely to catch up with people and finally meet some of the people I've been talking to for years.
15.06.2025 09:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Looking forward to the GW SOTA hog roast in a couple of weeks! And will be activating from a mid Wales summit too, one I haven't done yet. Planning on going all out for that one ... the usual vhf, uhf and 23cm, and unusually for me, hf!
31.05.2025 16:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just come back from a lovely weekend in Wales with family and managed a couple of SOTA summits along the way.
GW/NW-046 Rhialgwm
GW/NW-012 Cadair Berwyn
I would have gone on hf but it was too windy (30+ mph) for all that antenna support and wire.
Sunday 27 April
Afternoon: 20km mountain biking around Mortimer Forest including a SOTA activation of High Vinnalls G/WB-012.
Evening: one hour on the microlight over Shropshire with a newbie in the other seat.
View from the top of Stiperstones, showing broken rock a heather covered heathland.
Had a lovely day out on Sunday exploring Stiperstones. Usually it's number 4 out of 5 of the day and I just go straight to the trig point, do my SOTA thing and then back to the car. It's a great place, especially when the sun is shining, which it was.

#G/WB-003
Was in Cornwall over the weekend and ticked another 2 summits off the SOTA list. G/DC-002 Brown Willy and G/SC-003 Beacon Batch on the way home. Just about managed to qualify both on VHF.
