Do you know them personally? They were one of my favorite bands of the ‘00s, hit me hard in my youth. They never seemed to get the attention I thought they deserved, which is of course a familiar story.

Nine years ago, we lost thirty-six people in the Ghost Ship fire.

A couple years ago, word spread that Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman were in talks to produce a television series based on the event. I wrote this in response.

It’s actually kind of insane to realize how much constant awareness and unconscious management I need to perform, as a pedestrian, around human drivers. I didn’t realize the extent of it til Waymos came around. They were beta tested in my neighborhood.

I have lived around Waymos for 3 years, maybe longer. As a very frequent pedestrian, I actually breathe easier every time I see them. They stop for me, full stop, every single time, no matter what. Earlier today, in my residential neighborhood, a human driver cut me off, which happens constantly.
