“Traditional publishing” still makes sense to me because it’s the type of publishing most people are familiar with — the kind that gets most books into chain bookstores. But, I still don’t like that “independent” means something other than that simply because those books come from somewhere else.

I wish I read more in other genres that are easier to write. I always feel so overwhelmed and incapable writing in my favorite genres because I’m not being big or splashy enough.

In the new year, my main goal will be to read primarily physical TBR. I have way too many books and yet I mainly read audio/ebooks from Libby 😭

I interned for a major agent back in 2021, and although she passed on every partial I read for her, nearly all of those books (even the ones I didn't like) have since gone on to get book deals. And that makes me just a little more hopeful 💛

One thing that makes it really hard to imagine getting an agent is the fact that so many agents LOVE a romance subplot in every genre. I don’t want to write romance like that (it feels so fake from my end) so I wonder if anyone will ever be okay with my non-romance-focused MCs. Let my MCs just live!

The concept as it is now feel like it's been increasing over the past 5-8 years. But Christopher Paolini published Eragon as a teen, and the author of The Outsiders was 16 when she wrote it, so I feel like young authors have inspired more young writers over time!

Let it be known that my current #amquerying project makes me feel nauseous just thinking about it, and I don't think that stress is worth it when agent rejects are so personalized. Whenever I write my next book, I hope it doesn't feel the same.

Are there tips on knowing if a genre or type of story in that genre is 1) beginning saturation or 2) boring to agents?

I’m now seeing announced deals similar to my querying wip & I can’t help but think at least some agents were tired of my type of story or had a client like me. But I didn’t know!

i wish i had advice but if it helps, i'm going through the same thing 😅 i keep feeling like my writing sucks and there's no point in getting started if the first draft isn't working. but when i'm ready, i think i'll allow myself to make mistakes so i can learn from them!
