Color wheel (brown and tan are usually around orange) and the orange and yellow is the I use to get shades of brown and tan with traditional media like paint when there is not shade of brown available). When it comes to skin, orange is usually your friend-

A more random tip for skin tones is when handling them I actually find it’s helpful to treat them like shades of orange and sometimes yellowish and that’s usually where they are on the-

For clarification I refer to saturation as “how gray a color is basically” which is a simplification on my part but it just refers to like the intensity of a color (which I have a harder time explaining). Something that’s super saturated is going to appear more bold to the eyes-

Are an equal distance from each other (like red, blue and yellow). There’s more but I think you don’t neee to remember literally every single one. When shading one thing you can do is avoid just using a darker version of the color or black but instead change the hue slightly.-

So red is analogous for example with purple and orange. Green is analogous with yellow and blue. These colors can also easily go well together very often. Split complementary is just choosing one color and then the 2 that sit opposite from it while triadic is three colors that-

You’re using the placements might be portrayed a bit differently (like blue being more opposite to orange or a yellow-orange) but don’t worry too much about that. Next you have analogous colors, which are just colors that are next to each other on the color wheel-

Blue is often depicted as opposite to yellow on the color wheel which is why for example super Sonic is yellow and normal Sonic is Blue and even Tails has been depicted as yellow-orange sometimes. It’s important to consider that depending on how detailed of a color wheel-

This next part will seem a little disjointed cause I’m just copying and pasting from Twitter but let’s look at some of the terms I used more closely in case you still have trouble conceptualizing what I mean.

From the left and or right edge. Also just keep in mind lighting and try to find the “middle tone.” Picking the darkest shadow in a picture / drawing or a shine made from reflecting light obviously won’t give you an accurate sense of skin color / tone.

Basically when using a color picker like this keep in mind that the closer the point is to the left side like this the less saturated it is and just moving the picker straight up and down doesn’t always give you what you want. Sometimes you need to be mindful of its distance-
