01.10.2025 13:34 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0a topsy turvey world where calling Reform racist is apparently an incitement to violence but Reform *being racist* is not
01.10.2025 10:40 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0This is a really key chart. Look at the difference between concern about immigration between Lab to Reform switchers and Lab to LD/Green/don't know switchers.
The latter group is five times larger.
gonna be posting this over and over again, aren't I?
01.09.2025 14:14 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0'Disability culture' may seem oxymoronic to some, but to me it means good books, radical community care, and a whole lotta punk

Can't believe I'm saying this but I sort of feel sorry for the king
17.09.2025 21:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0would he like to say this publicly?
16.09.2025 12:00 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well that's lovely
15.09.2025 12:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In response to a question about gay marriage, Farage says kids needs a mum and a dad, and straight relationships last longer
Vile, obviously, but also fascinating for a so-called man of the people to be so far from public opinion on this
The House of Lords has the opportunity to do what MPs failed to - and change the assisted dying bill to protect disabled people
Me for the @guardian

Here's to hoping the House of Lords gives the Assisted Dying Bill the scrutiny, safeguarding, & open debate it failed to get in the Commons. Lives -- of disabled and ill people, already under attack in this country -- are quite literally at stake.
Lucy Webster for @theguardian.com β¬οΈ
Today the House of Lords begins its scrutiny of the assisted dying bill
They've got the opportunity to prove their worth by doing a better and more honest job than MPs
Me for @theguardian.com
www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
A crucial Lords committee thinks the assisted dying bill gives an unconstitutional level of power to ministers
The Lords now has the power to do what the Commons failed to - properly scrutinise and amend this dangerous bill

If they do call the new DWP 'the dept for growth' someone may have to acknowledge that cutting benefits is counterproductive. But I won't hold my breath
05.09.2025 15:45 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A shame that Lammy won't be shepherding the recognition of a Palestinian state and a shame Mahmood won't be sorting out prisons but have to hand it to Keir, they're good appointments
05.09.2025 15:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Go on, move Kendall
05.09.2025 13:50 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Rayner had to go but I think we'll miss her voice in cabinet. One of the few political minds, with a strong vision. Whether you agree with that vision or not, no one else in cabinet has one
05.09.2025 11:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0not sure "we're not the ones referring ourselves to ethics advisors" is the zinger Kemi thinks it is
03.09.2025 11:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Don't come for me but I do have some sympathy for Angela Rayner. The trusts like the one she's set up for her disabled son are notoriously complex. I get it
I would potentially have more sympathy if she hadn't been pushing disability benefits cuts
current book proposal stage: this is either the best or worst idea I have ever had
02.09.2025 13:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Banning refugees β people whose asylum claims have been processed by a hostile system and found to be legitimate β from bringing family members has one predictable and awful effect: instead of travelling alone, men will bring their wives and children on small boats, and some will drown.
01.09.2025 15:19 β π 467 π 126 π¬ 14 π 6it feels so much worse now because under the Tories there was some hope Labour would improve things, but now what?
02.09.2025 10:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't disagree with the first two sentences, but I think in general there's been far too much movement from 'not really noticing the problem' to 'despair'. Let's experiment with 'people and organisations try and enforce the norm' and then see if it is actually hard for it to be re-bottled.
01.09.2025 23:18 β π 694 π 132 π¬ 27 π 23Also basically argued there is no difference between a refugee and an economic migrant which is a take that belongs in Reform
You are in the wrong party ma'am
Absolutely extraordinary to watch a Labour MP on Newsnight argue that family reunion for asylum seekers is bad
01.09.2025 21:56 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0As a disabled woman, I face a greater threat from some of the people in parliament than I do from asylum seekers
01.09.2025 16:19 β π 6 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0is it only asylum seekers our Labour Prime Minister would object to living next to or would the sentiment apply to black and brown people in general? if merely the former, would he like to explain how he knows people he sees, say, in the street, actually are asylum seekers and not citizens?

01.09.2025 14:14 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Starmer could have said:
Vandalism isn't patriotism; daubing red crosses on Chinese takeaways and writing racist graffiti isn't patriotism; perfomatively sitting in front of a flag or tying one to a mosque isn't patriotism;
Patriotism is about making this country safe, happy productive for all.
