On vacation for a couple weeks, unexpected delay so we got an extra day to explore Santiago. The mountains were a bit hazy but there was a recreational closure of some roads for biking and waking/running. Really nice!

NCAR is a unique & valuable asset - far more than a climate model, or observations, or technology, or training ground, or gathering space. It covers weather, space weather, data, climate, paleo-climate, and everything in-between. It's building is an icon, but it's iconic status goes far beyond that.

Okay so this is not atmospheric chemistry related BUT I finished my first 100 mile trail run this weekend! Run Rabbit Run in Steamboat Springs. And like all long running endeavors I must talk about it on all social media. It was lovely except for the cold hail!! Many aspens changing color.

I recently analyzed LMIC participants by location and year and found out that conference location REALLY matters for this--40% LMIC participation in 2014 in Natal, 57% in 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, 15% in 2022 in Manchester (COVID still a big thing for that conference, though), ~3% for Colorado in 2016.

Been up since 230 am hoping my evisa for Cote D'Ivoire comes in last minute (applied 12 days ago). I've had good luck with visas so far and have a strong passport so not complaining but much sympathy for all the scientists that make it to IGAC events despite visa hurdles!

Somehow even mid-career I still get quite nervous before talks. Shout out to the people who look thoughtful and soothingly nod during presentations you are the unsung heroes of science.

Stand Up for NOAA Research – The Time to Act is Now The AMS is a global community committed to advancing weather, water, and climate science and service.

The 2026 budget passback plan calls for eliminating NOAA Research, the scientific backbone that keeps weather forecasts, alerts, and warnings accurate and effective. This would have disastrous consequences.

Yes indeed! It seems good to foster these connections, and be stronger together, right now.
