You have two choices when marginalized groups inform you of harmful language.

You can listen, learn, and adjust yourself to be less harmful.

Or,

You can say "nuh-uh" and keep harming people.

Which one you choose reflects what type of person you are.

Well said! Fundamentalists read their politics into biblical prophecy, and then insist that proves their politics are biblical.

Thousands and thousands of gulls, standing on the gray ice, swimming in the gray water, flying in front of the gray sky. I hope they are having fun.

I can't. Here are some #birds.

The claim that AI software is inevitable so we may as well embrace it seems to be at odds with the fact that I keep getting ads frantically telling me how good it is and I really need to buy it, NOW, approximately every 45 seconds.

It's baffling how completely committed they seem to be to their new strategy of making meaningless gestures that accomplish nothing and please no one.

Why are we still illustrating dinosaurs without their feathers? The scientist that led the discovery literally called this thing a Hell Heron.

CIDRAP Op-Ed: The FDA refused to review a flu vaccine, contrary to evidence. Now the agency reversed itself

@jakescottMD

The latest reversal is welcome, but the episode of first denying Moderna review of its mRNA flu vaccine deserves close examination

A Blue Jay on a branch looking at the camera. The bird has a gray and white chest and a pointy blue head crest. There is a black circle around the face and black H over the beak. There are out of focus snow covered branches and red berries in the background. A Blue Jay on a branch looking right.

The bird photos are just as good as they've always been. 🤷

I just searched for lipstick to see if anyone was talking about this, it was so delightfully relatable. Who hasn't had to go back to where they were just sitting for something that fell out of their pocket?

These are not the women's figure skating rivalries of my childhood, and I could not be happier about that.

It was so great to see her reaction to the score!

The older I get, the more I just want everyone to be happy with how they did. 😅

A Long-tailed Tit perched on a branch in winter, its fluffy white and black feathers softly puffed up against the cold.

In court, AAP argues Kennedy’s HHS made unlawful changes to vaccine policies After a day of oral arguments in a packed courtroom, a Boston federal judge did not rule from the bench on a lawsuit from AAP against HHS focused on vaccines.

Hey fam, it’s us!

“…Defend Public Health filed an amicus brief, arguing that the changes to the vaccine schedule…did not follow best practices for vaccine policy and that HHS’s statements that the changes would increase trust in vaccines and its comparisons to peer nations were faulty”.

Photo shows a group of Rockhopper penguins with the black and white adults on each side facing each other and a brown chick in the middle with his back to the camera. The two middle adults are in an aggressive stance facing up to each other red beaks open the right one leaning in with his flippers flung back. The adults on either side of which only heads and a small amount of bodies showing appear to be joining in 2 with their beaks o0pen as well as if shouting The chick is looking at the two aggressors and is standing on one leg with its fluffy down covered flippers outstretched at each side

I don't know what was going on here but they really were at it hammer and tongs! Even the chick joined in! Talk about #fail to get along with the neighbours

More like “forced” into, when AI is added to our existing software, email, spell check, web browsers and operating systems. It is extremely difficult to disable.

It’s also who we are forced to talk to when reaching out to customer service or, increasingly, even our own local government.

Yeah that's a goldfinch. They are so confusing in their winter plumage! Siskins are more streaky.

Photo of an Anna's Hummingbird from behind by Frank D. Lospalluto. The bird is stretching its wings above its back and splaying its tail. Text on the photo says: Don't forget to stretch.

🪶 Good advice from an Anna's Hummingbird.

Eye-level view of duck with red head, red eye, black bill, black breast, and light gray humped back, swimming in blue water toward the left side of the frame.

I very seldom see canvasbacks, and when I do, they’re typically far away. But this guy inexplicably decided to grant me a close look a few weeks back.

And photo of Lindsey Vonn at the moment she hit the orange gate on her run. Her arm is through one of the gate poles and her skis are in the air.

Seeing negativity about Lindsey Vonn that she shouldn’t have competed due to her age and it was hubris and she shouldn’t have been skiing on an injury, but:

- that’s ableist and ageist
- she was medically cleared
- she hooked the gate, extremely common error and totally unrelated to her ACL or age

Grackle perched on a dried branch staring into the camera. Grackles are in shades of iridescent blues and purples

#BirdOfTheDay theme for today from @robcrank68.bsky.social is #StareDown, and the alt theme is #Gulls. Here's a disgruntled Grackle who was a clear winner in the stare down contest #Birds #Grackle #WetlandBirds

I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

My favorite was the woman who skated to the Jaws theme. Sharks are cool! Figure skating is cool! More sharks in figure skating!

Some of the 270 or more Russian White-fronted Geese, grazing against a backdrop of fence and mature hedge. Lapwing and Golden Plover on muddy islands in a large field flood. Five Barnacle Geese, behind some of the larger Canada Geese, grazing on the edge of the flooded River Severn. Looking down from the valley side to the River Severn floods at Leighton, near Ironbridge, showing the river up on its floodplain with wooded hills beyond and pasture in the foreground. A low wintry sun is shining through a partially clouded sky.

We have some great birds in #Shropshire at the moment: the Crudgington Moor floods host the largest group of Russian White-fronted Geese in the county in more than 40 years; on the "Leighton Loops" were five Barnacle Geese. Both species are county rarities. And it didn't rain!

A female lark bunting, a small sparrow-like bird delicately streaked in brown and white with a chunky bill, fluffed up almost spherical in the cold, sitting on the ground munching on birdseed.

This gorgeous Lark Bunting flew all the way from, like, southern Texas to north-central Ohio because, idk, maybe she's had it up to here with other Lark Buntings? I assume it's the bird equivalent to when I say I'm moving to Mars to get away from people.

Cross stitch that says wash your hands. It has 3 pathogens on it: e.coli salmonella and cholera

Maybe a good time for this as well with norovirus making headlines.

I made this for our bathroom and a few “lucky” friends also got one as a gift.

As I’ve said before, it’s astonishing that I even have any friends at all.
