The award for Outstanding Pre-PhD Paper Presentation goes to Jenny Weigel @jmweigel.bsky.social, a graduate student at Florida State, for her presentation “Breaking the Binary: Mirrors and Spears in Etruscan Tombs,” at the Annual Meeting of the AIA in January 2025.
The Barbara McManus Award for Outstanding Scholarship is awarded to Kassandra Miller, Assistant Professor at Colby College for her article, "Intentional Menstrual Suppression in Imperial Rome,” JRS 114 (2024): 27– 59.
Massive congratulations for this prestigious award, Kassi!
One nominator writes, “Professor Catenaccio’s persistence for the sake of her students is incredibly inspiring. I can only hope to emulate her as an aspiring educator myself.”
Though early in her career, Professor Catenaccio has established herself as an exceptional teacher and mentor to her students. She goes out of her way to support and encourage her students, whether for a senior thesis or to continue their studies in Classics.
The WCC Leadership Award goes to Claire Catenaccio, Assistant Professor, Georgetown University.
“I am so pleased to have my work recognized by the WCC, which has been an essential part of my career as a feminist classicist. I am especially re-invigorated for my work with the Medea Project & Queering the Past(s), both of which are very important in today's political climate.” Dr. Rabinowitz
To sum up, a nominator wrote, “She has spent much of her career making connections between Classics and contemporary concerns, has taught many people who are not connected to Classics about the importance of what she has tried to accomplish, and stands nearly alone in her ability to connect.”
Additionally, Nancy has been involved for many years in weekly teaching at a medium security prison and has worked with the Medea Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women and HIV Circle.
Professor Rabinowitz has contributed tirelessly to many areas of public scholarship over her career and now into retirement. She founded the SCS affiliated group Classics and Social Justice and continues to serve as an advisor.
The WCC Public Scholarship Award is given to Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz, Professor Emerita, Hamilton College.
