The name “Maltsters” refers to people who produced malted barley for brewing beer or distilling spirits.

The 1914 station was designed with a specialized winch system using a "giant wheel" at the rear of the station, designed to haul the lifeboat back up the slipway—an improvement over previous, more limited setups.
The Suevic wreck highlighted the extreme challenges faced by crews, leading to continuous improvements in lifeboat infrastructure on the Lizard Peninsula, which ultimately led to a further relocation to Kilcobben Cove in 1961.

The 1914 Lizard Point lifeboat station, located at Polpeor Cove, was a concrete, purpose-built facility designed to handle larger, modern lifeboats via an integrated slipway and winch system. It operated from 1914 until 1961

The technique Christopher Anderson used is classic magnum-style editorial portraiture—the same harsh honesty used for war reporters, refugees, or artists. Applying that style to political power figures is what made the images feel so shocking.
This administration is so fucking stupid

The best travel Bbq you can buy👍

Pork chops around Padstow north Cornwall coast are a nice example of local British farm-to-table meat culture. raised free-range on the fields above the Camel Estuary and butchered locally home-grown cereals, which keeps the whole supply chain local.

Today hike on the South West Coast Path in Cornwall
Wasn’t a demanding hike today, but the wind and sea air were dehydrating. Luckily, there’s ale for that.

Fishing boats pulled up on the beach at Cadgwith Cove, a tradition that goes back centuries.
This small cove was once part of Cornwall’s huge pilchard fishery, when shoals were so dense the sea was said to turn black.

Cadgwith Cove
the cove still has a working fishing fleet, one of the few places in Cornwall where boats are still pulled up onto the beach after each trip, just as they were hundreds of years ago

It is considered a burial chamber or tomb (part of a passage grave), likely originally covered by a long barrow mound.

In the Netherlands, “shark’s teeth” road markings are a very important traffic symbol

If you see the “shark’s teeth” pointing toward you it means
You must give way to traffic on the road you are approaching

why the hole was made.
Theories include:
	•	Ritual passage stone
	•	Astronomical alignment marker
	•	Part of a larger stone circle

Last light on Mên-an-Tol.
Bronze Age stones, wind across the moor, and the sun dropping behind the hills.
Hard to beat an evening like this.

Cornwall has very strong tidal currents Around the Lizard they flow in opposite directions depending on the tide
One current flows up the English Channel
Another moves west toward the Atlantic

Where these streams meet near the headland they create overfalls rough water with confused waves

The Rumps on the South West Coast Path isn’t just scenery.

It’s a 2,000-year-old Iron Age cliff fort.
Roundhouses once stood here, protected by ramparts and the sheer Atlantic cliffs. Lunch break on the cliffs at The Rumps.
Iggy keeping a paw on my boot to make sure I don’t wander off. 🐾

#Cornwall #SouthWestCoastPath On the headland of The Rumps there is a Bronze Age burial mound, often called a barrow,
The mound dates to roughly 2000–1500 BC. The South West Coast Path is one of the most spectacular hiking routes in Europe, but the cliffs — especially around places like The Rumps — can be genuinely dangerous if you’re not paying attention.

Hiking the South West Coast Path out to The Rumps with our dog Iggy.
Sunny skies, windy cliff trails, and 2,000 years of history under our boots. 🥾🌊

The old documents described something called the Bristol Method of making gin.

Unlike typical modern gin where botanicals are distilled together, the Bristol method involved:
	•	distilling each botanical separately
	•	doing it when the ingredient was in season
	•	then blending the individual distillates

This approach allowed distillers to capture very fresh flavors from spices and botanicals arriving at the port of Bristol from around the world.

Gin from Bristol,
Smeaton’s Gin actually has a very unusual origin story it’s an attempt to recreate a forgotten style of gin from the 1800s

After five years in the Netherlands and riding often in Belgium and France I’d forgotten how differently cyclists and pedestrians are treated elsewhere.
Six weeks in the UK I’m reminded how rare it can be for road users to truly watch out for each other.
