Did you feel the M3.1 while you were in Oakland Tim?

I'm an EQ geologist that is happy in a trench with a fault & my family with two minerals the hubs in there with me. Born at 334.9 ppm CO2 concentration.
Did you feel the M3.1 while you were in Oakland Tim?
16.10.2025 21:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I did but the test EQ was in Berkeley? KCRW announced it if you happened to be listening.

16.10.2025 16:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Felt that earthquake! Very lightly though - so much that I had to check our house seismometer!

22.09.2025 15:12 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Chris modified this figure from a Temblor article which is modified from Shirzaei & Burgmann (2013) showing location of this very early morning's M4.3 earthquake in Berkeley along the Hayward fault. It looks like it happened in the zone where it goes from creeping zone to locked zone.

Several are prone to hurricanes and tornadoes. Callouts include: Upton, NY - Covers New York City and southern Connecticut Tampa, FL - Hard hit by Hurricane Milton in 2024 Houston, TX - All management positions vacant Paducah/Louisville/Jackson, KY - Nearly the whole state of Kentucky is covered by forecast areas without leadership
Donald Trump and Elon Musk have left Houston, Tampa, New York and other major cities without head meteorologists just ahead of what will be another busy hurricane season
This is straight-up life-threatening malpractice

And the answer is: This exact situation, during a major hurricane/flood/tornado/wildfire event, is precisely how that would happen.

NASA JPL ARIA project analysis of data from Copernicus Sentinel-2 optical and Sentinel-1 radar images measured the slip on the Sagaing Fault in Myanmar. Quick preliminary map. More details later. Fault ruptured about 500 km (300 miles) in the magnitude 7.7 [β¦]

USGS map and diagram showing fatality probabilities and the area with extreme shaking and damage
USGS updated PAGER estimate. It's frightening. Zone of extreme damage is now shown elongated along Sagaing fault for >500km. 70% probability of fatalities > 10000 (~35% >100000). βοΈ π§ͺ
These are probabilities, hopefully overestimated. In any case it's a massive disaster. Thoughts for the victims π
Map showing the segmentation of the Sagaing fault and the hypothetic historical ruptures
Today's #earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar, had magnitude Mw 7.7 to 7.9.
Prelim. source models point to rupture duration & length of ~120s and at least 200km. It likely filled large part of seismic gap S of Sagaing (previous rupture in 1839) βοΈ π§ͺ

Seismicity map with aftershocks as purple squares
Updated seismicity map for todayβs M7.7 #earthquake in Myanmar: labeled earthquakes down to lower M (7.0) and included aftershocks located until now. Most early aftershocks appear to be located close to the mainshock epicenter. Also, apart from the one M6.4 aftershock, no M5+ (yet). π§ͺβοΈ
