State senator
Hartford Connecticut has #NoKings
18.10.2025 20:37 β π 2373 π 330 π¬ 20 π 10The Appropriations Committee held a hearing on HR1 and its impact on SNAP in Connecticut.
Somehow we have unlimited money to bail out the government of Argentina while the feds are cutting food for low-income US veterans.
Hundreds of thousands of Connecticut families are at-risk of losing their food assistance thanks to the cruel & reckless approach of the Trump Administration.
βThe state has the ability to protect federal constitutional rights at the state level and to say that we are going to ensure that they are not violated,β Lesser said.
09.10.2025 15:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He added that the legislature should pass the [sic] state civil rights law and ensure protections are in place to tighten rules upon state data.
The state civil rights law would expressly protect federal constitutional rights in state law, according to Lesser.
βI want to make sure the constitutional rights of everyone in Connecticut including U.S. citizens are protected,β [Lesser] said. βThe federal government has a responsibility to enforce immigration laws. I respect that. I am concerned about overreach and infringement of constitutional rights.β π§΅
09.10.2025 15:33 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0The President and the Republicans are shutting down the federal government for one reason only - to raise health insurance premiums on American families. Don't let them do it!
01.10.2025 01:38 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Angry about an Administration that believes they have the power to fire comedians who they don't like? Well Connecticut has the power to fight back.
21.09.2025 16:04 β π 2 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I am asking Attorney General Tong to review the proposed merger of Nexstar and Tegna, reducing consumer access to news & public event programming in the Hartford-New Haven media market.
Nexstar gained national notoriety this week for its role in forcing the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel.
This is the dumbest decision I can think of. The project is 80% completed - stopping it now just deprives Connecticut residents of clean, affordable electric power and devastates our building trades and our economy for zero reason. The President may hate wind mills but he needs to get over it.
23.08.2025 16:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hey, since Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott started this important national conversation, what do folks think about this possible map of Connecticut State Senate Districts?
It's more compact than our current map and it respects town boundaries and communities of interest.
Connecticut hospitals have received these subpoenas, a disgusting and illegal intrusion into the privacy of Connecticut families.
21.08.2025 03:40 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 1We have never had a secret police force in our country and we shouldn't turn into a country with a secret police force.
21.08.2025 03:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They are increasingly turning into a secret police force unaccountable to elected representatives and the broader public, now with a budget larger than the entire armed forces of countries like Israel and Italy...
21.08.2025 03:30 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Tonight ICE deleted their defamatory tweet about Rep. Paris, who they falsely claimed had doxed their agents, subjecting him and his family to violent threats. But the underlying problem remains....
21.08.2025 03:30 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 2 π 1Happening now: #AFTCT VP John Brady & labor siblings βͺjoin Rep Larson, st Sen @mattlesser.bsky.social to denounce #SocialSecurity cuts, rally to demand #RetirementSecurity. @aft.org @afthealthcare.bsky.social @aflcio.org @ctaflcio.bsky.socialβ¬ @housedemocrats.bsky.social @ctsenatedems.bsky.social

13.08.2025 21:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our prescription drug law is making waves, covered in today's Hartford Courant.
13.08.2025 21:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0* Saves taxpayers money with bulk purchasing
* Directs DECD to explore bringing drug production on shore to address supply chain issues and drug shortages.
I was honored to co-lead the task force that delivered real action on this critically important issue.
* Caps price increases for generic drugs at inflation
* Creates a process to make popular weight loss drugs generic and manufacture our own with an FDA licensed manufacturer
Some highlights:
* Authorizes safe affordable prescription drugs from Canada
* New rules on PBM middle men to shine a light on health care monopolies and require them to disclose conflicts of interest and pass on rebates to customers
(More!)
Thank you Office of Governor Ned Lamont for signing our bipartisan prescription drug task force law today! It's the most aggressive law any state has ever passed on drug pricing and affordability! Connecticut is leading the nation!

Yale followed suit a little while after. Families in my district are terrified - and I believe these actions likely violate state law. Full text of my letter:

This morning I wrote a letter to CT Children's CEO Jim Shmerling expressing serious concerns about enacting a discriminatory policy that cow-tows to Donald Trump and jeopardizes the safety of transgender youth in my district.
24.07.2025 20:26 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Here in Connecticut, we're working to ensure everyone has access to the mental health care they deserve. Senators @mattlesser.bsky.social and Cabrera were proud to join Governor Lamont and advocates on Thursday for a bill signing to strengthen mental health parity in our state.
10.07.2025 18:32 β π 6 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0The proposal was included in our bipartisan prescription drug affordability bill, and would require the sign off of the US Department of Health and Human Services. It passed the legislature almost unanimously! And yes, big Pharma hates it.

So this is out of the box: Governor Lamont has signed my proposal to have Connecticut partner with a generic drug manufacturer to manufacture our own Ozempic.
Taxpayers are spending $150 million a year on that one drug - it's not affordable!
