I got the 2015 line by the way, even if it was a bit garbled. Having some awareness of Scottish politics helps as well as using English.

I think we're still a lot better, but I disagree about the direction. That's why we need to actively steer it back onto a progressive course. We can't just rely on an idea of what Scotland is.
I felt safe from the hate in the news, until it was right here in my face, in the middle of Scotland.

We're at a point where I'm personally aware of kids of colour being abused during a church service and another one being told "there are just too many of you".
Every policy announcement like this will embolden racists.
Every time police facilitates hate protests outside of people's homes also will.

I broadly agree, but Scotland is very much affected by this. There's twice-weekly harassment sessions (protests??) outside of an asylum seekers' "hotel" a few hundred metres away from me. Scotland has never been anything but welcoming to me as an immigrant, but this is under threat now.

The issue here is that it could mark a shift where the word "racism" is no longer taboo to describe the racism which has become so incredibly mainstream. That would be a win.

I want all of this and I see how little it is to use the word racist for such a blatant example. But we tend to say it's nothing because it's so far off good enough. The needle is so far to the right and is still moving that way. We should acknowledge even the slightest quiver to the left.

Post some links then. The Labour leadership have twisted themselves in knots to not use the word "racist" and peddled the "legitimate concerns" idea. This post is not about whether Labour have been racist, but whether they have ever called out the wave of racism in this country.

Comments here show a problem we have in the left. So many people just list everything wrong with Wes Streeting. I agree with all of it, but the post is about one specific issue, the fact that Labour kept feeding into racist sentiments. Let's fight one battle at a time or we'll never gain ground.

I think it shows that the problem is not 24 hrs channels, but when you fill the 24 hrs with commentary above information.

They have n-tv as a 24h news channel. Not sure what it's like, I never watched it much and not at all in the last 20 years!
Very true about the 15mins main news programmes though, more to the point. Before others think it's just one show, all the major channels, public and private, do 15 min shows

I'm so tired of hearing how he was such an honest debater. A while ago I watched a video of a British student "debating" him and it was infuriating how Kirk didn't engage with the points the student made, just picking out a word and repeating wild claims instead. He was only pretending to debate.
