Hi Professor Kim,

I just wanted to write and say thank you for the great class you taught this semester. To have the opportunity to learn from someone with such expertise, open-mindedness to discussion, and enjoyment for what they teach is a great gift to any student. Your classes combined rich technical information as well as practical understandings of how it relates to our and others' lives. I hope to work with or have you teach us again through the course of the program and I have very much enjoyed being your student this past semester.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

After a year away from teaching to settle into a new admin role, I taught cognitive psychology (my favorite course ๐Ÿ˜Š) this Fall.

Reflecting on the year, Iโ€™m reminded how much I value connecting with students. Even after all these years, emails like the one below mean so much.

Abstract for study "Transformative but Not Easy: Studentsโ€™ Experiences of an Interdisciplinary, Project-based Capstone Course"

Abstract: In this study we explored the experiences of students who completed a project-based, interdisciplinary capstone course that was offered at a large university in Southern Ontario, Canada. To do so, we interviewed students after they completed the course, adopting a constructivist perspective and a phenomenological approach. Interview transcripts were analyzed, resulting in four themes: (1) communication, (2) group dynamics, (3) successes, (4) differences between program requirements. In addition to revealing tension between fostering student autonomy and providing students with support, our findings also demonstrate that students valued the capstone course for the knowledge and experience gained from learning to work as an interdisciplinary unit rather than the tangible output of a given project.

Very happy to have ๐Ÿ‘‡ finally out, and part of the latest issue of CJSoTL, celebrating 15 years of advancing teaching and learning scholarship. Explore diverse insights, including the study below on interdisciplinary capstone courses. #SoTL #HigherEd
