As I marched with teachers, students & families demanding safety & dignity, my heart breaks as a teacher & mom that stories like Nory Sontay Ramos—a 17‑year‑old deported to Guatemala—are far too common. Schools must be true safe zones with basic needs support for kids & families living in fear.

It’s how she got on the school board and took over the district in the first place — a subtle kind of bigotry exploited to fool some non-Republicans. It always seems to be the ‘average soccer mom concerned about girls’ sports,’ coded in transphobia.

California’s kids don’t need another politician, they need a teacher. 🍎

I’ve spent 30 years in classrooms, from Compton middle schools to mentoring future teachers.

It’s time for real classroom experience to lead our public schools.
