THE connoisseurs In spite of the urgency of their rather crowded life the Black and Tans are apparently not without interest in art and literature. Having raided, in his absence, the flat in Dublin of Hr. Darrell Biggie they showed their nice appreciation of art adopting, among other things, Japanese carved statue one the oldest Japanese artiste, a choice which seemed to prove spurning on their part of the obvious. Their attitude to letters would, however, seem to less modernistic. Finding in the flat a copy George Moore’s Story Teller’s Holiday published in limited private edition some years ago, the auxiliaries stripped it its cover and, mark their disapproval of it, stamped on it with muddy feet. Thus those who have asserted that the Black and Tan's draw the line at nothing have belied those cultured men. Some of them have drawn the line—quite drastically—at Mr. Moore
More random weird finds from my #GeorgeMoore research--the Black & Tans (brutal anti-Irish-independence constables employed by England in Ireland) were evidently NOT fans of GM:
