Serious question: wouldn’t it take as much time to get the prompt right for AI to write your memo/email as it would to write the memo/email yourself? Haven’t tried it b/c it seems like extra work.

Reading with great interest. Teaching a freshman composition course this fall called Narrating Global Problems. Reading Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower (climate change) and Ali Smith’s Companion Piece (COVID) and interspersing with history/non-fiction.

Business professor here β€” Whenever parents ask me if I’d recommend my discipline, I’m honest with them. My undergrad is a double major in English Language & English Literature and I know I got more out of it than I would’ve a BBA.

Now a humanities-informed b-school, that would be ideal!!

I remember parents (always parents) at open days asking "what can s/he do with an English degree?" I answered that 75% of graduate jobs did not specify a subject. Employers wanted intelligent, resourceful people with transferable skills. English and humanities grads were ideal.

Best recent stats or articles on why majoring in English is valuable?

I'm looking for easily digestible stats for recruitment materials: e.g. X number of graduates are employed within Y timeframe; English majors are X behind only Y graduates in job satisfaction.

Thanks!
