Good scientists are leaving NIH.

Counter to the quote from HHS, NIH is struggling to recruit qualified scientists to replace them.

My own role sits empty. NIH cannot replace me since I am still employed but prevented from working.

This admin is gutting science.

RFK Jr. claimed that keto diets cured schizophrenia. Here’s what science says. Ketogenic diets do show promise for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but the research is preliminary and not backed by randomized controlled trials.

“If this is a topic of interest, you should fund a lot more rigorous nutrition research that would be able to accurately assess whether or not so much a claim is founded,” Hall said. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/...

Every word Andrew Nixon-the HHS spokesman-says is a lie including “and” and “the.” He’s a 12 year old in an empty suit spouting drivel and lying to the American public.

Spoke with a PI whose postdoc is trapped abroad because of social media vetting. It appears the postdoc missed disclosing one account and it's unclear if they can come back… ever.

This is the country we live in now.

The language on multiyear funding (MYF) is ineffective.

Final bill anchors MYF to 2025 instead of 2024. This means MYF will likely continue at the same rate we saw last year, where NCI's payline from ~10% to 4%.

This is incredibly harmful to the US research workforce - especially early career.

The US is home to only 3 of the top 25 universities globally in research impact (#3, #20, and #23).

In 2009, we were home to 15 out of 25, including the #1 spot.

It would be the unforced error of the century to scale back on our national investment in science now.

2025 was the year protein ‘jumped the shark’ 2025 was not the year protein finally got its due. It was the year protein was oversold, overvalued and overhyped. The science of protein has not changed; we just need to listen to it again.

Here's a recent article by protein expert Stu Phillips putting things in appropriate context:

Right, so right in the ballpark of what most young and middle aged adults are already eating. No need for products like this:

Are they really recommending a lot more protein than Americans are already eating? bsky.app/profile/kevi...

Average protein intake is actually closer to 1.3 g/kg per day with these assumptions, but the point is that it's substantially higher than the RDA.

Ave. protein intake of adults in the USA is ~1.2 g/d per kg or 50% higher than the current recommended daily allowance (RDA). This calculation assumes NHANES mean adult height, weight, & 16% calories from protein along with a physical activity level (PAL) of 1.65 from doubly labeled water estimates.
