Never gets old knowing I’m in the Ripped Bodices, either. Every time I shyly peep to see if I’m on shelves there, and every time (so far) I am. I now have multiple books in my fave stores, which is bananas.

It also already has some amazing reviews on Amazon and Barnes and Noble (a 4.6 rating, what??), if you want to check out what other people are saying. And even better, I discovered today that it’s on at least one display, the only display I can unearth for myself lol - in Powell’s!

No, recognising some of the dog whistles in that album is not a reach. They’re extremely glaring. Barely whistles at this point.

Some days you can really see the way stan culture is just a far right pipeline. Pushing stans to defend less and less defendable things, pushing them to call criticism of worse and worse stuff silly and too far and too woke.

Apply the imagination to the set up, and the pay off. To the struggles themselves. To character work. That’s all Aliens does. It uses Ripley’s PTSD. It uses the arrogance of the marines. It cuts off every out they have, slowly, one by one. The drop ship: down. The nuclear countdown. The ceiling.

All you need to make a great Alien movie is a cast of likeable characters played by great actors, a desperate situation, and then apply all your big ideas and imagination *to them trying to get out of it*.

So many old white dudes just seem to want to make something like Prometheus over and over, instead of what everyone actually wants: something more like Alien/Aliens. And it’s not that hard, because Romulus managed to get pretty close.

Yeah Alien Earth went in such a boring direction. More people behaving completely ridiculously, despite the fact that you have a cyborg trying to sabotage everything and steal the creatures right there. Inexplicable connections between the aliens and robots. Lost of Ideas but dull execution.

As you get older, try to keep an open mind for what younger people enjoy, and engage with it how you can. This is easier the more you do. You'll enjoy a wider band of stuff, younger people who need you will find you more approachable, and you won't turn into a "in my day" grump.
