It’s just exhausting!! One of my friends has 20k followers and all her recent carefully crafted and expensive posts have like. 100 likes. What’s the point?? And it’s either that or you spend 50k on adverts.
Sometimes I miss old twitter so intensely it’s awful. Just because back then I could have posted about my upcoming books and gotten fifty likes and loads of views as standard. Now you’ve got to work out what insta has decided this week to get anywhere.
sorry basically the problem of my life is that i internalized and believed a lot of stuff people said about valuing children and loving your neighbor and living in a society at the exact moment that everyone in power decided all of that shit was fake and gay and not a way to make a living

“Oh she [fat/disabled/BIPOC/queer] doesn’t deserve him [white dude] because reasons!”
Also always find it a bit rich to write some unlikeable white guy, and expect people to just go with it, when 99% of everyone else is writing perfectly normal and likeable characters who STILL get called unlikeable. Sometimes it happens just because our characters are marginalised lol.
For example, lots of people enjoy Loki or Hannibal Lector or Hans Gruber or even any number of unpleasant characters, purely because they’re entertaining. Even someone like Fleabag - people loved her. But also just like i say - you write someone unpleasant people might like them.
And the latter - when people are insulted for not liking a purposefully unlikeable character - well what is that even about. I’ve never understood it. Partly because sometimes the issue is the character is unlikeable but not compelling, rather than it being the viewer can only enjoy likeable.
See things like Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, The King of Queens, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory. This issue is rife in sitcoms. Ray, Ted, Ross, Doug, Howard, Leonard are all very unlikeable and in many cases horrible. But the framing doesn’t expect you to react like that are.
They get called babies who just don’t understand anyway, despite the creators very obviously expecting love and acceptance of what a great guy he is and this viewer being discerning enough to realise this and not go with it.
The real problem is when people write unlikeable characters but a) didn’t intend them to be or b) expect people to not find them unlikeable. The former is something very few recognise. Usually when there's some asshole white dude and he was intended to be the hero, but people see through that.
I don’t know why people have so much trouble with the idea that if you write unlikeable characters, purposefully, that many people will not like them. This does not necessarily mean they don’t understand that it was purposeful or just want baby food. Your work is just working as intended.

A striking feature of Trump and his team is: they somehow imagine a world in which they are the only actors, only ones with power, and whether it's Tehran or Minneapolis are surprised when it turns out others do. There are many kinds of power and many nations with power.

I'm hearing rumblings that there was a seven figure auction at the London Book Fair for the rights to republish All The Young Dudes, a popular Marauders era Harry Potter fanfic. So allow me say it again: I will never support any author who traditionally publishes HP fanfiction with the IP filed off.
Gamergate was not “all teenagers”. The guy who started it all was likely in his thirties. One of the most famous instigators and participants was Adam Baldwin, who was in his *fifties* at the time.
I respect Luigi of Mario & Luigi more than I do Mario, because while Mario is naturally gifted and full of courage Luigi is a timid humiliating creature who still endeavors to protect those around him
In case you're wondering what I'm working on, I'm currently revising this book, which will hopefully come out in the spring of 2027.

Lol yep it’s looking likely. The box office forums have been charting it steadily rising in anticipation and presales (went from 6m previews to looking like 10m which is a huge jump) and one just said it looks like it’s going supernova after those stellar reviews. We shall see!
