Hoping for this Mamdani + Trump scene as Gov. Stitt happily signs my HB 1493 (Growing Minds, Active Kids Act, which sets a statewide minimum of at 30 minutes for recess in all day pre-K to 5th) in 2026! It’s in the Senate and is ready to roll!

Wild to see Trump speak so kindly (chummy even!) about NYC mayor, Zohran Mamdani! And Mamdani basically blew up Republican plans to use him as a wedge in ‘26!
I thought he handled that meeting masterfully.

Kids act out for reasons: trauma/unmet needs/mental health, etc. When districts focus on student supports (that the state can help fund) like more paraprofessionals/mental health folk, real alternatives for students struggling in traditional classrooms, etc., academic outcomes’ll be better!

When it comes to teaching/learning at high levels, class size matters, but it’s not all that matters. Speaking as a teacher, while it woulda been nice to have less than 30 7th graders in each class, it was the lack of supports (for kids who really needed them) that made it so tough to teach!

Brushing up on my Diane Ravitch… super important w/ literacy policy front & center for the 2026 session. If ya don’t know her work, she’s right about most everything in public ed, esp the harms of an over-focus on standardized tests/running schools like a business. Re: education, I often ask: WWDRD?

If we added 15 more days to the school year, the average district would spend appx $1M; statewide: $440–$620M.

I’d rather invest in what really helps kids: smaller classes, reading specialists, ⬆️ pay for support staff, mental health supports, etc.

I’m for improving our schools…but this ain’t it.

Saw an ad calling for a plan to fix Oklahoma’s low rankings (education, health, innovation) while claiming “it’s not political.” Respectfully, it IS political. One party has run the state since 2011, & it’s the Republican Party…so all of this occurred under one party Republican rule.

Anybody else watch “The West Wing” to remember what a real president acts like? President Bartlett is the definition of a statesman (rather than a feckless billionaire showman)…which is what this country needs! Are statesmen/stateswomen becoming fictional characters in this era?

However, every statewide elected official already gets triple digits, so I find it extremely out of touch to raise their pay, especially with so many Oklahomans struggling to just survive.

Many folks believe state representatives and senators make triple figures, but we don’t. We get $47,500 per year + mileage,& if we live more than 50 miles away from the Cap, we get a stipend of $174 per day during session. I recognize that’s great compensation, but it’s not triple digits.

I remember “transition” back when I was a little Rosecrants (think it was after K or 1st grade 🤷‍♂️) where some kids got extra time to grow academically & socially. I maybe could support that statewide (w/ funding + interventions) over a 3rd-grade retention test. Thoughts?

My opposition to this 3rd grade retention test (I derogatorily call it the 3rd grade “flunk” test) is because the test creates a bottleneck (& stress for student & teacher) & 3rd grade is much too late. So if we’re gonna talk retention at all, wouldn’t earlier be better?
