Congrats to Vedinad. This is certainly on my list of games to play before 2025 is up.

Absolutely!
It's somewhere between the original and The Following DLC, both of which I adore. A focused scope with a manageable world map and a lot of good missions. It's not bloated; it respects your time. Enjoy.
Finished Dying Light: The Beast.
An awesome, condensed zombie slashin' & monster bashin' thrill. Its campaign is great, esp character work & villain setup. Plus, side quests consistently hit.
Exploring continues to be sublime. Combat is good as ever.
I'd call it must-play! ๐ง
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft reverses this, or at least delays it.
The massive jump for Ultimate seems like a breaking point even for its base. We'll see.
Well here's that Xbox GP price "update" aka increase for certain tiers, after HW/ACC went up this year.
Raised more than I expected. Ultimate now US$ 30 (!)/mo.
Approaching a level where even dedicated players might drop a tier or buy games ad-hoc.

Electronic Arts is going private in a $55B deal.
What does it mean?
Well, less transparency. No public filings. Likely slimming of costs. Potential for layoffs. More Saudi money in games (PIF is involved).
It's unlocking value.. for shareholders & execs.
Close in FY27 Q1.
I was guessing around 86 for Ghost of Yotei.
It's starting at 90 on Open Critic ๐
Yet another potential GOTY and it's only September. The 2025 backlog continues to grow.

If it wasn't for Insomniac's Wolverine, which looked awesome and I love the bloody direction it's going, today's State of Play might have been the most lackluster I've seen in a while.
Below is the blog post at PlayStation's site.

Just how many 2025 GOTY candidates can there possibly be?

The internet really does have a field day whenever a platform holder has one of these events.
"ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!"
(Not really.)
I need to hear the most outlandish State of Play predictions you've seen.
Did you know that Insomniac will have both Wolverine & Venom games ready, FromSoft will reveal a Bloodborne remake & its sequel then Rockstar will put out a new GTA VI trailer?!

There are so many games in 2025 that I nearly forgot one of my most anticipated is out today!
Baby Steps sounds funny and strange and wacky in the best ways. It's near the top of my "to play" list, even during a super busy season.

I'm currently collecting three things to end the second act.
I think the main struggle is that I played it way too much and need a break, hah!
I hope Dying Light: The Beast gets its praise this year.
I'll take any reason to revisit the series, one of my favorites of the last decade.
Here, the parkour, exploration, scavenging & combat remain fantastic, reminiscent of the 2015 OG in all the best ways.
It's killer! ๐งโโ๏ธ
I've mostly enjoyed exploring the world of Silksong, between vibes, music & tidbits of lore. Hornet is amazing, thematically & mechanically.
Still, I'm at a breaking point due to struggles with later game fights & runbacks.
Maybe I just need a break. Might come back. Might not!
Thanks again, America.

Thoughts on August's global games charts:
Yes, more platforms = more sales for Helldivers II.
Mafia: The Old Country at #6 by rev is impressive.
BF6 is set to outperform. 100M players? Maybe not.
I do think it can crack Top 5 for 2025's premium list.

Splinter Cell fans should enjoy what they can, since there might never be another game.
(That's right. I think the remake could be vaporware; I'm not sold that Ubisoft is investing much in the future of the franchise when it comes to gaming projects.)

First it's 80 bucks for a game. Now it's 50 bucks for a piece of plastic in one of its mid-tier franchises.
Nintendo is certainly at it once again.

Aaaand there it is.

Here's Nintendo PR on today's Direct.
I thought it started slow. Mario 40th stuff is underwhelming.
Thankfully its back half was stronger with dates & solid reveals, even if dominated by older titles.
Hades 2, Metroid, Popucom & DK DLC stood out to me.
www.businesswire.com/news/home/20...
Get ready for the split of new games to remaster/remake/re-releases/re-imaginings to be heavily skewed towards the latter in the Directs of this Switch 2 era.
#NintendoSwitch
Apparently literally every game must launch this month.
#NintendoDirect
Nintendo is totally going to charge 70 bucks for the two Galaxy titles and make the collection available for only three months, right?
#NintendoDirect
As Borderlands 4 reviews hit, starting at 85 on Open Critic, I'm reminded of just how well the games sell.
94M units to date.
BL3: 2K's fastest seller.
BL2: 2K's top seller.
Really curious to see if BL4 outpaces BL3 (I think it will) or if there's a level of franchise fatigue.
It's cool and all there's a Nintendo Direct announced for Friday.
However, seeing again that Mario is celebrating its 40th anniversary this weekend is yet another reminder of the inevitable, unstoppable death-march of time.

Even with a record-setting launch for Switch 2, I am in-line with Newzoo on global industry growth settling in the low single digits for 2025.
Pricing pressure & uncertainty are mounting, which can limit upside on the demand curve, esp for console & PC.
