“I’m a longtime supporter of non-partisan independent redistricting in every state, but extraordinary threats to our democracy require extraordinary action. “We put Prop 50 on the ballot and voters passed it today in direct response to Texas Republicans’ choice to draw and pass a new, rigged Congressional map without input from voters. That’s anti-democratic, plain and simple. “Prop 50 will now level the playing field so the voices of the American people are best represented in Congress. Most important, it’s temporary, and it ensures we return to our independent redistricting once this threat has passed. “I am deeply proud of our state and of our community for showing up and delivering when our country and our fellow Americans needed us. I love my current district, and I will continue to serve the people in our community with dedication and to work with the candidate elected to represent the First District. I am also excited and energized to work with the local leaders in our newly-formed Fourth District to serve our community and address the issues important to them.”
