In my 16 years on Twitter, the world changed in many ways. Social media used to be exciting and fun, rather unpolitical too.

There's a Pet Shop Boys song called "This used to be the future", released in 2010, which talks about a utopian future that turns out to be terrible. They saw it coming.

So my first tweet was from February 13, 2009. Early on Twitter, late to leave it.

It's not that easy to let go of 16 years of digital history, so I downloaded the archive, which took a couple of days to build. Funnily enough, the archive is still branded as Twitter, which I appreciate.
