Happy Ο Day! Here's our special video for the day. youtu.be/ICUmKasEdIo

Hey fellow #Math and #Minecraft nerds. Can you figure out what's going on here? #STEM
Americans: Don't tell me what to do. This is the land of FREEDOM!
Also Americans: You want me to get up, go to work, worship, and do everything an hour earlier for the next 8 mo for no good reason? Yes sir!
As a consequence, food is __cheap__. It's a low value commodity, but it still requires access to high-value equipment and land. If you're the guy in the video, making the food is almost trivial, but competing with the economies of scale of industrial farming is near impossible.
Even with all the tech that's gone into farming, it's still the case that chickens "just lay eggs." Think of the tech, engineering, chemistry, and materials science that goes into making just the toy in a Kinder joy egg. Compared to that, keeping a chick alive and healthy is easy.
Farming used to be HARD, time consuming, and labor intensive. During the middle ages, it took 3 people farming to feed themselves and one other person. Most people experienced a famine in their lifetime. Today a farmer feeds themself and >50 other people, and famine in very rare.
If you think about it, this fall into the "funny because it's true" category. 𧡠youtube.com/shorts/EMbc0...
...and looking like you're dancing like Nathan Lane in The Birdcage.
OMG the Muppet Show special...
Maybe it's my autism, but are you talking about me? Is this an "I like waffles" moment?
Exactly. It's fun to think about the DSM entry we'd have for allistic people. Firstly, they clearly lack a "theory of mind" because they're always misinterpreting what us normal people say. They have a communications deficit because they can't just _use their words_.
PSA (Please repost?). If your iPhone has been really iffy about recharging, you might try (hopefully temporarily) turning off "Clean Energy Charging". Due to some combination of winter weather and Trump policy, the data for when you're on green power is really flaky right now.
Hard truth for me fellow Gen-X'ers: Remember those really old black and white sitcoms we watched growing up?
"Friends" is now as old as they were then.
If psychology had been an attractive profession for autistic people, there would be no such thing as autism.
Nevermind! Lesson to us all: be patient. It took over an hour, but they came through. The system isn't down, just overloaded.
@hytale.bsky.social Is your email verification down? Tried several times and I'm not getting the email. Yes I checked spelling and spam.
Looks like Hytale hasn't worked the bugs out. I've tried several times to verify my account with two separate email accounts. No emails. Yes I checked spam.
Why are you even bring up self-awareness. I think your confusing a bunch of issues.
Ask Lee Sedol whether an AI can be creative or be better than its training set. Everyone thought the AI was bugging out. IT was just inventing a new playing style that no human had ever used.
"LLMs are incapable of not doing that."
In my experience it's actually fairly rare now if you know how to ask the right questions. Letting hallucinations go through is as much a user problem as an LLM problem, and it's getting better over time.
One thing you quickly learn about conspiracy theories is that a whole lot of them are just someone accidentally figuring out what capitalism is but being a little too racist or something to take the next logical step
Look at this guy thinking that nicotine (aka cocaine-jr) is regulated in any meaningful way. It's as addictive as any class-A drug, but has less regulation than aspirin or even multivitamins.
It's already demonstrated the ability to do high-value science/technical writing that previously cost $1/word.
Source: I used to be the guy being paid $1/word, and I'm not going to delude myself that it's somehow magically "just not the same....somehow."
I'm just going to come out and say it: "Last Christmas" is even less of a Christmas song than Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
To add to this, I'm not going to make any lame DoPaMiNe-based argument, but I'd be very worried that if you're consuming media this way, you're training your brain to live in an inch-deep "vibe stream" and not be able to think deeply on anything that flows through your cranium.
This isn't new. That super-friendly "Barby McMichigander" was always based in New Delhi. That chipper and friendly receptionist is going to be talking smack about you during her ciggy break.
Going forward, just assume it's AI, especially if it's competent, patient, and willing to listen.
I can't be the only one who finds the (mandatory?) autoplay feature on #tiktok to be overwhelming, stress inducing and dysregulating, can I? When I watch something deep, touching, interesting, etc, I need a few moments to process and think about it. Without that, it just becomes janky noise.
Has anyone released an stl of the Trump/Epstein "Friendship" statue? Asking for a Friend with a 3D printer.
Weird question #201 that I find myself researching to support (or distract from) my writing:
What was the status of marzipan in the late medieval period?
Would Islam exist without Christianity? I'm thinking it could, but probably in a somewhat different form.
