langley is chaos right now since the cia is getting fired so if you see someone posting "therapists are a psyop to carry out capitalist emotional labor alienation but yall aren't ready for that conversation" this week you know they're just doing it for the love of the game

Me quote tweeting Zuck on Threads. Zuck is responding to Anil Dash's point about how Zuck claimed he wanted to cure all diseases, and now a direct result of him sucking up to Trump is the defunding of the NIH.

Zuck responded to him saying: "It's always revealing when a person's response to disagreeing on something is to start making things up about you."

I quote tweeted it saying: "You know what's helpful when someone is making things up about you? Fact checking."

"Wait, so under the American system, all three branches of government and all other processes can be short-circuited by something called an 'Executive Order' that lets a president just instantly override all of it?"

Well, here's the thing about that: No

the most important survival strategy we can adopt in this new world is to pick one guy to blame for everything going wrong and really just tear his life apart. this brings me back to the subject of Jared Leto,

You're Soaking in It - Hussman Funds There’s a very rare set of market conditions extreme enough to deserve a β€˜warning.’ As Madge said in the old Palmolive dish soap commercials, β€˜you’re soaking in it.’

That's necessarily always the case - a lot of financial products will be collateralized or margined against those stocks, and the 10% drop will trigger margin calls.

Also, while people are saying the economy is doing great, the markets are overvalued:

David Autor might not be as plugged into tech as Acemoglu is, but he has great papers on the effect of all of this on workers and inequality as well.

Great episode, but you missed an opportunity to ask him about the effects of all of this on inequality, which is a thing he's a real expert on.

One of the best papers in all of econ is by his colleague David Autor called "Work of the past, Work of the future".

Search really needs to go back to non-content based signals - the original pagerank did that decently enough.

19.07.2024 12:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The thing is that indexing based on content has been a bad idea for a long time. With good AI text generation is just completely kills it.

Google search rannking is both the metric and the target in the Goodhart's law case for search. SEO is just the failure case.
