That's a good analogy. We know how LLM's work as well as we do dice. No magic there. Unless you go far into the rabbithole of metaphysics.

Lack of knowledge and understanding of the world. Semi-smart people stuffed with unrelevant and incorrect information. Paired with an abundance of confidence.

If you don't want to be forgotten, don't create the circumstances that eventually lead to you being so, right?

Sure, like fusion energy. We can hope it is solved, but shouldn't hold our breaths.

It is an engineering problem. But a very hard one. Because the LLMs don't understand logic and symbolic tools don't understand natural language. Fact checking is hard if you don't even understand what a fact (or in fact any concept at all) is.

They can't win. Because they can't change what is true. Truth is eternal, it doesn't succomb. Sooner or later there will be a judgement day. Oh, I long for that day!

The Phony Comforts of AI Optimism A few months ago, Casey Newton of Platformer ran a piece called "The phony comforts of AI skepticism," framing those who would criticize generative AI as "having fun," damning them as "hyper-fixated o...

Newsletter: The tech media needs to move away from optimism and dreaming about what AI (and AGI) can do, and start focusing on the dangerous financial crises brewing. Failing to hold the powerful accountable is cowardice, and actively harmful to society.

Interesting palm tree! Never seen 2 of them merge like that. But yeah - it's small office powerpoint ready. Let's see that disruptive global productivity boost go through the roof!

It's arguably better. Still weird, though. Non connected trees, weird shadows. Where is the sun coming from? But if you don't need quality it'll work.

Agreed. You kind of have to give people a heads up that what you are writing is fiction. Especially if it's published in a context where you expect non-fiction.

Eventually. But there's a risk it won't happen in time. Our elites also love money more than they love truth. And military spending is inflationary.

It's incredible people still believe trickle-down economics work. You'd be forgiven for doing so in the 1980's and 90s. But now? Grow up and read up on the hard science.

Hmm ... haven't read the study. But if it wasn't a randomized controlled experiment I would highly suspect that there could be a correlation/causation issue here. One would think less critical thinkers are more prone to use generative AI?
