Sometimes I feel like a true academic, like when, less than a day before a talk, I finally have inspiration hit and so now I'm only getting 3 hours of sleep before my flight out tomorrow.

My neighbor's improvised music on pieces of metal is a headache at all times of the day, but there's something particularly egregious hearing him bang around on a metal milk can at 4 AM.

I am calling for a moratorium on new tote bags. We all have more than enough tote bags already. Stop giving me tote bags at conferences. I do not want or need any more tote bags.

In comparison to now, where Milwaukee police will allow a high-speed chase to go on unfettered and murder civilians

At the same time, a co-worker today complimented another co-worker on their weight loss in a way that made me feel very noticably "the fat one" in the conversation. I haven't had that happen in years.

I started sewing at the beginning of the year to remove myself from the commodity of fat bodies in fashion and that's helped. It helps when patterns don't go away and I can make clothes that make me feel good. But that's an active choice I make out of my creative needs that isn't available for all

Third year of teaching at UWM, fourth year of teaching full-time as a professor, eighth year teaching at the college-level, and I still get first day jitters and can't sleep. #academicsky

I grew up rural, 45 mins outside of Champaign in IL. Very used to dead and dying small town USA. Despite that, I was blown away when I moved to Ohio and saw real rural poverty in Appalachia. There's a difference between "boring but functional" and "collapsing from systemic neglect".

I used it during a big research project looking at relationships between people in Chicago's Black artist network haha. But my partner uses it much more as a brain dump area with tags connecting larger thoughts. I love how you can make separate vaults for different projects or ideas.

It is, unfortunately, wonderful. Especially if you're a database nerd. Never thought of getting it on my iPad.

Working with denim and canvas is no joke but this was such a breeze to make. @helenscloset.bsky.social #SamApron Really considering making them for our graduating students, especially with how easy they are to customize and stash bust. #sewsky

Everyone wants to live next to the artist until it's gong sound bath #3 of the day and the yard is just trash. I miss last summer when he'd play EDM and work out for hours.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center residency they do every year for artists is one of the best residencies in the US. Deeply competitive and sought after, to work in the factory with the workers making the toilets!

It is 2:30 AM and I can hear my neighbor playing his gong. This is an all-the-time event, but 2:30 in the morning feels even more egregious than 10am or 10pm (other gong-hours). This man is single-handedly making me hate the concept of sound baths.

Will Riker wearing a v neck that goes almost down to his dick

despite everything, i still believe in the potential of humankind to create utopia. but it will require hard work, courage, and above all else extremely deep v-necks that go almost down to the dick

Threadloop - A better way to organize your sewing Plan your projects, organize your fabric stash, and discover inspiring patterns while connecting with a community of sewists.

#sewsky follow me on Threadloop! It reminds me so much of Ravelry for knitting projects and community, I'm very excited about it and I've been adding all my sewing thoughts there:

I really wanted to make something for myself this week and REALLY wanted to do this project quickly, so she's not as good as she could be but it's my first time making the #jaqstudiowoolfork dress, and my first dress more generally! Excited to do this pattern again as a shirt.

A postcard with a black and white photo of a formally dressed man and woman and a pink flag of that reads “Milwaukee.” Text reads “Why don’t you come to Milwaukee where life is worth living”

I'm wondering about recording all of the violations I see on a daily basis. I live off MLK and it's routine to see people completely ignore red lights.

Made Robert some #ThreadTheoryJedidah shorts! I learned quite a bit with these, including adding a zipper and fly. Hoping they hold up to the summer wear!
