Just found out that my name, image and likeness was stolen and used by @grammerly.bsky.social -- along with other colleagues. I'm so done with these AI companies stealing everything including our identities. Thank you @juliaangwin.com for leading the charge! www.bbc.com/news/article...
i genuinely do not understand why *anyone* would want a phd if they're trying to outsource their thinking to claude.
like, there are no jobs, no work-life balance, no resources (for most of us), and the work gets tougher every year. the thinking is the only fun part, i promise.
Just so we're know, the award winning paper at an ai conference last year was about how detrimental ai journal submissions were to the field.
If I did anything like this for my dissertation my thesis committee would have tied me to a rocket aimed for the sun.
My friends are helping me to raise funds so I can afford basic necessities and start building my life. If you can, consider donating. www.gofundme.com/f/support-st...
What alternatives exist to chatgpt?
- Community, make it or find it
- A friend, be friendly, trustworthy, more open-hearted to exchange with someone willing to share that with you
- A piece of paper, doodle/write “badly” again and again until one day you smile at it then keep on doing that
- ??
I don’t think we talk enough about how the foundational, most aspirational premise of the AI industry is “what if there was a human-level intelligence that didn’t have human rights.” Like. Exploitation is literally the whole point! Of COURSE they hold human life, intelligence and labour in contempt!
In Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Congo — mothers are mourning their babies.
Resharing this piece I wrote over two years ago because we’re still watching a genocide happen, watching even more parents mourn.
Women’s day includes these women too.

Everything is gender, because I do see this happening to professional/expert women a lot. At least some of this is ‘surely you, a woman, can’t be right when this LLM is saying otherwise’
We warned you about putting fundamentally leaky and insecure "AI" systems into the research and education environment, bro! We fucken told you bro!
Oh, so everybody’s like really out of money
Another tough day for team “there’s no point in complaining about AI, just accept it.”
Even if AI could write a novel what problem has been solved? The problem of knowing what you’re reading was written by another person? Who loves reading novels but hates the part where your mind briefly and mysteriously touched another?
This is amazing and so much better because of the accent. I could listen to him say “shitty” all day.
WHY DO ALL THESE HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES WANT TO BE CONNECTED TO THE BLOODY INTERNET? Our landlady installed light switches that don't work properly unless you use them in conjunction with an app. I don't want a fucking app for light switches. I just want to switch a light on and off, using a switch.
I’d just like to remind all of us who are scrambling to get rents paid that this is manufactured scarcity.
We absolutely have the money and the tools to prevent this crisis: the wealth and power brokers are just refusing.
i'm tabling this weekend, so i decided to make a printable graphic to let people know about Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin's emergency dental care fund.
i'm printing 9 to a page and cutting them out. feel free to use!
Earth is a wonder.
People can debate AI all they like, but surely we can all agree that anyone who owns or uses a pair of the pervert glasses that secretly record people should be ostracised immediately and totally from our society? I'm sorry but your pervert glasses prove you're a pervert! Get out of town!
Along with this, just thinking about how eugenics and patriarchy combine to get this result. Like there's an air of I won't be fat like them and I don't cook food because that's for girls to do for me so I'll eat kibble.
My understanding is that one of the main reasons the anti-Iraq-war movement failed so badly, despite mobilizing massive numbers of people, was that it mainly focused on symbolic marches and not direct action against companies/institutions that upheld the war machine.
I wish more anti-war groups around the country would pivot from symbolic marches to targeted campaigns against companies that form the pillars of the US war machine.

"Lorde's framework (from being sick to becoming sick) emphasized that the process of carcinogenesis is a political matter and a matter of politics."

Today is Disability Day of Mourning; a day dedicated to remembering disabled people who were murdered by their parents and caregivers. I don't have anything insightful to say this year that hasn't already been said before. I just wish people gave a shit.
Remembering disabled lives lost to filicide this Disability Day of Mourning. March 1, 2026.
One of the seemingly-mundane-but-actually-chilling-AF things that stands out to me is Epstein's GF being admitted to a dentistry program. Dentists have ready access to all kinds of knock out drugs.
get weirder 🫵
context, rhetorical conventions, and style matter in black studies!
but not when people treat a whole discipline like an anti-intellectual playground or an aid in atoning for an anti-black world they have no desire to dismantle anyways.....
i'm not in black studies
but i read enough to know that taking lines out of context and not providing it will always sound fifty shades of funky
a lot of it is not meant to be one-liners that you just "drop" into the ether
y'all did that to bell hooks's work, but that don't work for everything
there's also the problem that progressives, liberals, and people on the "left" treat Black studies like both the problem child and the container for a toothless anti-racism
failing to attend to the critical methodologies therein; speaking conventions being one of them (beyond appropriating AAVE)
