The number of kids who live within a mile of school and walk there has gone from about half of kids 50 years ago to closer to 10% today, and a 2017 study cites "traffic-related danger" as being the second-biggest barrier to walking just behind "live too far away." These cuts will make that worse.

PBOT staff went above and beyond for tonight's District 3 open house on transportation funding! Hot take: they need money, and they should get it. Curious how the proposals presented will change based on feedback they get from Portland's 4 districts, because I heard/saw a bunch of solid suggestions.

Rip City, Not Rip Off — $600M Public Money, $0 Back Portland owns the Moda Center. The city is handing $600M to a billionaire and getting nothing back. Here's the deal that makes it pay for itself.

The organizer of www.ripcitynotripoff.com, Edan Krolewicz, is testifying, saying the amended version is progress but "the Blazers are staying, the amendments confirmed it. We can stop negotiating from fear, and start negotiating on the terms of the deal."

They are limiting testimony to 60 seconds; good thing I always make sure to keep my comments snappy! Honest, short testimony is most effective in my view, and allows everyone to share their thoughts.

Portland Trail Blazers President Dewayne Hankins said he wants a "market rate partnership" with this funding bill, which specifies funding from the State and requires it from Mult. Co. and the City of Portland, but does NOT have any requirements for the Blazers to pay into it. At least not yet.

These are all very modest changes. One noteworthy omission is any legally binding financial commitment from the Trail Blazers' ownership.

- The "joint authority" created by this bill (made of "public bodies") get to review the renovation plans before dispersing the money
- The state will not pay unless both Mult. Co. and the City of Portland make "binding and substantial commitments" to the renovation
