This was never about removing "violent criminals". It was ALWAYS about race. And make no mistake, they aren't just targeting Minneapolis - the entire state is under threat. The events of these past weeks prove as much.
Remember to stay safe, stay vigilant, and stay active.
These were people who were working, people who were contributing to the community, people who were abducted by this administration and its insane quotas, people who were sold out by county officials to keep the jail full and money flowing in.
Yesterday, in the midst of everything that happened, ICE raided a restaurant in downtown Brainerd and detained 4 people.
They're not alone. Dozens of people have been rounded up by ICE in the Brainerd-Baxter area. Many are currently being held in the Crow Wing County Jail.
It is our hope that what we've established here can be used as a guide by other DSA organizing units on both a local and national level. If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to us.
The future looks bright as we seek to include more voices in our big tent.
Written in consultation with some of our Native members, it reflects the best practices that they've learned through the hard work of organizing in these communities. Their wisdom will guide us forward.
Our resolution establishes a rubric for outreach to these communities, ensuring that we approach them with the respect and intentionality that is needed.
Native communities have difficulties ensuring their voices and perspectives are heard in DSA spaces. In addition, the insular nature of these groups makes it difficult for outsiders to have an impact.
Last night, our chapter passed a resolution to try and change this.
Yesterday, Renee Good was murdered by ICE. A US citizen fleeing for her life was gunned down by an immigration official.
The community response was immediate, powerful, and still ongoing. More is planned in the coming days.
Remember her name. Remember what they did.
Five years ago, BLA/DSA held its first public meeting.
Even though a lot's changed since December 29, 2020, we're just as committed as ever to fighting for the future of our communities and beyond.

The DFL just lost a winnable race because they shoehorned in a moderate candidate rather than let the voters actually decide on their candidate.
