Turns out painting on a boat in big swell gives the finished piece a rather organic look 😆

This is amazing! I absolutely love low flutes. I had the privilege of playing what I think was called a hyper-contrabass flute? It was taller than me and I almost fainted playing it 😆

Finally back to painting after moving interstate - which involves a lot of faffing about when you live on an island. Just about to board the boat back to mainland Australia. Goodbye Tasmania 😭😭😭

I'm holding my sketchbook up with the beach in the background. Clipped to my sketchbook on the left page is my plein air gouache palette with 12 colours. On the right page is a gouache study of the breaking waves.

A balmy 10 degrees on the beach yesterday. I decided to tackle my nemesis - painting waves... Also, does anyone else kinda feel like a badass when they wear black fingerless gloves?

Yes you're right! A mash up of the places I've been recently, mixed in with how I was feeling that day ☺️

I've been experimenting with blues lately! I find the blue I choose makes such a big difference to the feel of the painting. I've been using a limited palette within this palette, using just one or two of the blues to see how it changes the vibe

Hahaha absolutely! The finishing touches phase is at least 90% of the painting process right?

Oh I fully support this strategy! The amount of times I quit half way because I got hungry and tired, or drank too much coffee beforehand......

Two small gouache paintings in my sketchbooks. The top one is a tannin-rich stream running through smooth rocks and lush ferns. It was a damp chilly day so I finished that in record time! The bottom is a study on rocky sea cliffs on a crisp sunny day.

Trying to keep up the #pleinair in winter is hard! But at least the #gouache doesn't dry out
