I know health concerns are a factor even in children and can genuinely look different in everyone, but I’m almost positive that’s not the case for all the kids I’ve seen here.
there’s been an epidemic of children/tweens in my condo’s gym lately — like with personal trainers and everything — and I find it so entirely odd that if I’ve decided to pretend they’re all mini athletes training for the olympics. Cause why are 12 (and under) year olds at the gym?
I’ve never worked in politics but I imagine it’s the same struggle. You need a sense of empathy and morality to actually be good at both these jobs, but you can’t let it consume you either. It’s a hard balance that doesn’t get taught in classrooms or by peers. And it can lead to some tricky spirals.
Building on this, but on the flip side of things, one day I’ll write about how scared Alex is at how quickly he’s learned to shut out the horrors he’s faced with so he can focus on doing his job. It’s a common challenge, especially in pd, and it can be genuinely awful to notice it happening to you.
We’ve already seen that he struggles to be around his parents when they’re constantly at each others throats, and obviously it’s a much deeper wound, but when you learn to be in tune with almost imperceptible mood swings, you no longer turn it off. And you carry it with you into all areas of life.
This me projecting, but I’d love a fic that explores how, despite the fact he loves his job, Alex still finds it challenging at times to practice law.
His heightened empathy is his superpower and he’s a natural mediator. But it’s also a common trauma response, and it can get so emotionally taxing.
