As many of us begin Christmas meal prep, allow me to share the advice that my ER nurse sister puts in the chat every year:

A dropped knife has no handle. Jump away. Let it fall. You can pick it up and wash it.

It makes it really easy not to buy them. Quality Street is the same. I realise now I was only buying them for the spangly papers.

It's a sorry, business, Suzanne. I did just have a mince pie though, so not all is lost.

I know this means I may never be allowed back into the UK, but Quality Street lost its appeal when they replaced their pretty, spangly wrappers with the dull, slightly Soviet ones (I know,I know, for entirely reasonable planet-saving reasons). So it has to be Marrons glacΓ©s.

I substituted the eggs for duck eggs and milk with geese fat and it came out terrible!! Please write in the recipe when reasonable substitutions cannot be made.

Let me break this down for you.Duck eggs instead of chicken eggs? That's actually fine. Duck eggs work in eggnog. That's not your problem.
Goose fat instead of milk? Goose fat is a solid cooking fat for roasting potatoes. Milk is a liquid dairy product. They are not interchangeable You essentially made hot melted goose fat with duck eggs. Of course it was terrible.
Bottom line: If you fundamentally change the structure of a recipe by using completely different ingredients with entirely different properties, you're not making eggnog. You're conducting a failed science experiment. Make it again with actual dairy and report back.

incredible stuff over at r/ididnthaveeggs

It’s a eggnog recipe
