Feb marks 22 years as a MH nurse. All 22 years, plus my 3 years training have been in @kmptnhs.

18 m later and after doing actual stats without crying, I passed. Got lots wrong (right test - wrong data, right data - wrong summary) but I’m more confident than I was & know a bit more about stuff, but more importantly this cert challenged me to do things that scared me

I have few people to mum boast to so you need to know how 🤩 15yr olds can be. Together with her friend they’ve been recognised locally for the fundraising work H initiated, developed and actioned. 15yr olds are ok - even more ok when they bake and bring you a slice with ☕️

I’ve been attending Trust wide meetings and I’ve had the best time. In each mtg I’ve attended there has been someone who I either haven’t seen for some time, or previously worked with, sometimes 15+ yrs ago. It’s made me feel re-connected and how nursing can be a wide family.

When I was younger I wanted to be an archeologist & dig up 🦕 theres currently a full scale archeological did happening opposite my house (Neolithic henge found in 2014 so possibly something similar) but 100% holding out for a 🦕- it’s so exciting, like Jurassic Park meets Swale

We have been taking 14 to the @kentcountyshow since she was young & every year she’d watch the Young Farmers and say she wished she could be there and show. Today, as a Young Farmer she placed 3rd in her first Kent Show with #TonyStark the 🐄 who she has trained and raised

14 & I have discussed misogyny, handling requests for explicit pics via SM, homophobia, RoeVsWade, debates around why boys/men think sending you a 🍆 pic is wanted!, HeardVsDepp.

Raising a brave, strong willed teen to be a strong woman is an honour.

14 ‘passed out’ as a police cadet yesterday. She supports friends with MH needs & on more than one occasion has bought plasters & plastic ice cubes for friends that SH. She’s fiercely proud of who she is & has 👀 on applying to be a cadet Sargent. This is your future of policing

Toy story has ruined me. I have just apologised to the cuddly toys for having to take them to the recycling centre and I couldn’t look at their little furry faces as they went over the edge.

Why, WHY, after 8.5 years of post-grad qualifications have I still not learnt to make note of a reference. Can I find it again..NO, does it even seem to exist..NO, will I learn from this..definite NO, will I use an electronic reference management system *shudders* NO.

I was fancying chocolate and feeling tired when the door bell went and the dog started barking. Huffing and puffing to myself I grumpily answered the door to be presented with this. Thank you @kmptnhs 😊

Those of you with toddlers/young children, theres light at the end of the tunnel. My teen is in the kitchen baking, bringing me over bowls to lick clean and samples, whilst she cleans up her mess and gets food out for dinner. She also reaches things I can’t. Teenagers are great

And while I’m on a rant about myths....you DO NOT HAVE TO BE ‘ACADEMIC’ (whatever that means) to do research. If you have ideas, can see areas for development, see need and can collaborate with colleagues and lived experience then you can do research. 5/5 ...rant over!

If practice is underpinned by research and research (hopefully) becomes practice, why does working in a field that can develop cutting edge, novel treatments and interventions been seen as lesser, how can it make me any less of a nurse because I don’t work shifts or work duty 4/5

I did a hybrid of nursing and research when in clinical practice, now in research I do a hybrid of research and nursing. I did not lose my professional knowledge, identity or skills the moment I walked through the doors of R&I. 3/5

Such myths and preconceived ideas not only applies to nurses in research, but also to other professions who may wrongly feel that research is therefore not a viable career option, not valued, or considered as ‘worthy’ as other roles..2/5
