What does an artist do, mostly? She tweaks that which she’s already done. There are those moments when we sit before a blank page, but mostly we’re adjusting that which is already there. The writer revises, the painter touches up, the director edits, the musician overdubs. I write, “Jane came into the room and sat down on the blue couch,” read that, wince, cross out “came into the room” and “down” and “blue” (Why does she have to come into the room? Can someone sit UP on a couch? Why do we care if it’s blue?) and the sentence becomes “Jane sat on the couch – ” and suddenly, it’s better (Hemingwayesque, even!), although … why is it meaningful for Jane to sit on a couch? Do we really need that? And soon we have arrived, simply, at “Jane”, which at least doesn’t suck, and has the virtue of brevity.

See also, George Saunders' essay "What writers really do when they write" which has maybe the definitive paragraph on editing I've ever read. www.theguardian.com/books/2017/m...

The Unity HDRP is Dead – GameFromScratch.com Unity have just announced HDRP and the Built In Render pipelines are as good as dead with URP being the new priority SRP

but rest assured that if youre now completely dependent on built-in, Unity wont just leave you hanging without some official, easy and reliable way to convert all your assets and configs to URP, since its a forced change.

right? 🤡

It's incredible how it was revealed that the anti-trans push over the past decade was concocted in no small part by a literal PEDOPHILE CONSPIRACY and the reaction of transphobic lawmakers, journalists, academics has been a shrug and a "well, we gotta
carry out the orders from pedophile island"

most of these wont even compile without human intervention, let alone be shippable/playable.

Unity itself is underestimating how much of a finnicky asshole Unity is, to think any bs one saves in a .cs file would make it a game.

also, you can't even vibe code your way in and around the editor

It remains to be seen how the Venezuelan people will respond to a more overt CIA presence in the country post-Maduro. For years, Maduro cast the CIA as a convenient boogey man, repeatedly accusing the agency – without evidence – of attempting to topple his regime as he clung to power despite US opposition.

Now, the CIA has helped supplant Maduro and is poised to help actively manage the Trump administration’s dealings with Venezuela’s new leadership.

Absolutely incredible sequence from CNN.

"Maduro was a paranoid lunatic always lying about the CIA trying to overthrow him. Anyways, now that the CIA has overthrown him..."

Completely aside from the other horribleness here, to say "we don't try to moderate reviews based on accuracy" is tantamount to admitting your reviews system is a completely arbitrary popularity contest that may not have any actual relation to the product. One that can make or break your game sales!

Agora, toda a América Latina é alvo potencial.

We've Got Our First Clair Obscur-like, And It's A Chinese Game Called Sword And Fairy 4: Remake Some shots almost looks like a Clair Obscur DLC.

I really hate how games media handles anything out of China: www.thegamer.com/clair-obscur...

We're getting a gorgeous remake of one of their best RPGs ever, but the clown does zero research about it and just goes "I'm getting a lot of Boss Baby vibes from this..."

My daughter, who's had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen.

Something that seems fundamental to me about ChatGPT, which gets lost over and over again:

When you enter text into it, you're asking "What would a response to this sound like?"

If you put in a scientific question, and it comes back with a response citing a non-existent paper with a plausible title, using a real journal name and an author name who's written things related to your question, it's not being tricky or telling lies or doing anything at all surprising! This is what a response to that question would sound like! It did the thing!

But people keep wanting the "say something that sounds like an answer" machine to be doing something else, and believing it *is* doing something else.

It's good at generating things that sound like responses to being told it was wrong, so people think that it's engaging in introspection or looking up more information or something, but it's not, it's only, ever, saying something that sounds like the next bit of the conversation.

Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
