Also, "normal people"
I spent the last week writing up this essay on what it means to be trans in this moment. What it means to live under authoritarianism as the scapegoated minority of the moment and how it feels inescapable as an infinite loop.

Historian of French Revolution here to say that in periods like this, squeamish compromisers do as much to drive radicalization as do ideologues. If you keep making excuses for the unfit king, eventually folks come for you and him.
Predictably, basic facts directly contradict the author's position: Italians report much greater levels of loneliness than Americans in spite of their (amazing) coffee culture.
But what does that matter when you have a culture war to wage?
People budget for the expected costs. If you have to commute a long way and can't afford an extra $100+ a month, well
It's very frustrating, because what is the danger supposed to be?
In theory, it's regret, because we know there are no serious harms, there are only changes that could feel like harms if the person isn't trans.
But in practice they can't find the regret.
Not defending Kid Rock here, but every normal human looks like garbage next to Ricky Martin
Just wanted you guys to see “Riding in a golf cart fatly”
Reminds me of Swift’s Modest Proposal.
Knowing people there do you feel like it's really for trolling & clicks? Or is there just great animus towards trans people or reactionary centrism or some such?
The latest is so vile, but also so clearly in bad faith I can't quite wrap my head around what's going on at a place that used to be good
New post!
Many Americans hold contradictory opinions on the same policies. Question wording effects can swing opinions by 20+ points on immigration, the budget, and transgender rights.
That's a problem for people who interpret polls for a living.

And also, "I am fighting AGAINST them."
Link to the work or the person? I'm not in biochem so not sure where to go to find this. Thanks!

I’m not going to get into this again but the defund the police critique remains complete bullshit

lock her up doesn’t lay out why or for what
make america great again couldn’t be less specific
this critique is pure reactionary nonsense filtered through pundits
If u haven’t been demonised and subjected to dishonest reporting, as the nyt has done w trans ppl, it might seem hyperbolic when we say the nyt wants to drive us out of public life, to effectively destroy us.
But the record shows the nyt has waged a years-long activist anti-trans campaign🧵
Great example of how, in this era, trying to be fair to both sides means providing a platform for unserious people to spread destructive, objectively false garbage.
Ds may not forget, but with no call to prosecute does it matter? Shame doesn't change policies or punish, or most importantly deter. Do we see D leaders calling for the *prosecution* of Trump? Or even the prosecution of more marginal actors?
We need a direct call for prosecutions, the rest is dross
"Think Like a Dinosaur" is a great novelette by James Patrick Kelly (it won the Hugo) on exactly this topic. I highly recommend
We cut child poverty in half across this whole country and also instituted universal free meals in public schools across this whole country. And then we let those policies expire. During the previous administration.
And thus it begins. That bit about 19 years old and older is the giveaway that it's to appease Trump & the GOP.

The vast majority of transgender youth in the South and half of transgender youth in the Midwest live in states with at least one law or policy that restricts their rights. Read the full report at tinyurl.com/anti-transpolicy
seems fair to me
How about criminally prosecuted and thrown in jail? Let's target the outcome we need
Everyone who thinks that adopting a centrist position nearly identical to that of a Republican will reach a swing voter (which, Max is right, is the worldview of a certain generation of consultants who came up during the Clinton era) has not talked directly to any swing voters in the last decade
BREAKING: Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been convicted of insurrection for declaring martial law in December 2024, and has been sentenced to life in prison.
the overseer of project 2025 is telling you out loud that every inch you cede on trans rights is part of the plan to create a white christian fascist state
