if there's one vaguely optimistic thing i can say, it's that the "subscription-based" part of the headline is kinda misleading - you pay a subscription for 'advanced ai features', which like 99% of users already don't want. the operating system itself is a one-time purchase still.

the only real way to break the cycle is to get more people to stop using windows. which as i said. is kinda impossible given how many people rely on it, because companies won't make software for linux, because of microsoft's monopoly 😵‍💫

so people end up getting stuck on windows, and microsoft Knows This Clearly, because it means they can shove more shit into their os, and their users will just suck it up and use it anyway.
