When the data stops looking like “hm that could make sense?” to “wow this makes no sense at all”
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it will shut down its Office of Research and Development and eliminate thousands of agency jobs. According to the agency, this office has long served as the scientific backbone of its efforts to protect both public health and the environment.
“Historically, no one lived past age 35”
"I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"
If you take one thing away from today, let it be that we outnumber them.
Trump’s proposed budget would eliminate all federal funding for the Integrated Ocean Observing System - used to supports safe navigation, storm prep, and ocean health.
Without it, real-time ocean data could disappear—putting lives, industries, and ecosystems at risk.

Sheryl reached out to tell me about universal right to counsel, which I didn’t know much about.
We want to our policies to be comprehensive and consult as many experts and affected people as we roll them out.
So if you’re local and passionate about an issue, hit me up at hello@katforillinois.com.
⛔ NIH ended ALL of my grants mid-project, given LGBTQ health focus 🏳️🌈
⚖️ So what am I doing? Suing RFK, Jr.
As one team member shared in this story👇: "The threats to our work don’t just make me fear for my career — they make me fear for my safety.“

179 experts. 28 countries. 1 message:
Long COVID is real, multi-systemic, and devastating. It affects over 400 million people. And we're not prepared.
New global consensus just dropped.

🧵
1. RFK Jr/HHS wouldn’t allow him to put out a press release for the study
2. They denied him the ability to do an interview with the NYTimes about the study
3. They edited his responses to written questions from that reporter (without his knowledge)
All bc they didn’t like his findings 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Guys, I love all of you, but the answer to RFK, Jr. is not that autistic adults hold jobs, pay taxes, and get laid, it's that everyone deserves to live even if they can't work, pay taxes, or get laid.
My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"?
Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...
Anyone else that frequently looks at these reports seem different? Almost less information than usual in the main report despite combining two usually separate reports.
Anyways in prevalence:
Male:female continues to decrease
Minorities:white continues to increase

I really appreciated @hankgreen.bsky.social’s dire wolf video, which is really worth watching. He breaks down the science, the hype, and why it’s important to tell the truth about extinction:

Study History. 100%. Absolutely. Study History.
I hope writing this doesn’t get me deported.
Published in The Lancet yesterday: “As physicians and researchers who have a responsibility to speak up about inequitable policies that detrimentally affect patients, colleagues, and students, we cannot remain silent in this crucial moment.” Highlights…
The next person who says to “just focus on the science” is going to end up on the receiving end of all of the thoughts I’ve managed to keep inside my head over the past 6 months.
RFK Jr. says he’ll know what causes autism by September. Someone should tell him NIH—his own department—already funds $300 million per year in autism research, yielding hundreds of studies. Autism has been studied for decades and he’s claiming he will know the cause in 4 months?
oh you mean like every other time they've tried this? everywhere else in the world?
No we won’t
It’s not an epidemic
And I doubt exposures refers to epigenetics but even that is dependent on genetic susceptibility
More access and better diagnostic tools have helped us get here
The gap has been narrowing, and only in data from 2020 did we see minorities have higher prevalence rates

RFK Jr. says we will “know the cause of the autism epidemic” by September. His arrogance, his hubris, his absolute ignorance is more astounding every single day. Researchers have been studying this for years, and risk factors have already been identified.
It’s an ARCHIVE dammit, it doesn’t CARE about the admins DIRECTIVES for fucks sake
ROLLA???!
90 percent. They sent innocent people to a gulag so Trump could look like a tough guy. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Warm congrats to @wendyingram.bsky.social + @dragonflymh.bsky.social and thank you for everything you're doing.
Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that:
1. Climate change is real
2. Vaccines work
3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😤
