Construction of the Alaska Highway involved 11,000 soldiers and 16,000 Canadian and American civilians.
The 2,451 kilometre highway, including 133 bridges, was built in just 233 days in 1942.

On this day in 2000, Jim Egan died. His court challenge, Egan v. Canada, led the Supreme Court to rule sexual orientation is a protected ground of discrimination in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
