The Welsh equivalent of Samhain is Nos Calan Gaeaf, a day much like Halloween. Stones are left at the bonfire with your name on it, facing the fire: if by morning it burns away, you are safe. If by morning your name remains, you are fated to die in the next year. #FolkyFriday

Halloween is born of Samhain, which is found primarily in Gaelic Celtic regions but with analogs in Brittonic Celtic areas: yet in both there is some evidence the festival may even predate the Celts, as they use tombs and ancient sites older than history itself. #FolkyFriday

The Detroit Free Press from Wednesday, October 31st, 1984, with a major headline reading Devil's Night vandals set hundreds of fires. To summarize the part of the article seen here: there were over 400 fires on Devil's Night 1984, up from the year before, despite cops, firefighters, and citizens with waterhoses trying to put out fires set by arsonists. The mayor's office insists the major difference is that while there are more fires, they are more under control. There's also an article about Walter Mondale running for President, but that's not important.

Made famous by the Crow, October 30 is considered Devil's Night in the North American Rust Belt, though known by other names such as Mischief Night. Full of more tricks than treats, these range from simple pranks to arson, particularly in 1980s Detroit. #Halloween #Folklore
