Spring made a surprise attack last Friday.

A large passenger ship is in the dock on the other side of the Nieuwe Waterweg, near Vlaardingen. In the 1950s and 1960s, shipbuilding was booming. The outer harbor of Maassluis, the city where I live and was born. The port was a fishing port before 1920, but later changed into a port for coastal shipping and towing and salvage. Nowadays the harbor is mainly a historical attraction. https://www.ervaarmaassluis.nl/en
The river Maas has its origins in France and runs via Belgium through the lowlands of the Netherlands to the North Sea. The lowest point in the area. From here the water is pumped up to the Nieuwe Waterweg via ditches, steams and canals. If this did not happen, half of the Netherlands would be under water. Ingenious constructions have been keeping our Dutch feet dry for centuries.
