Good book, - has solved many a location problem.
Bit annoying when he was writing the tome though because rafts of trench maps "went AWOL" for periods from the map room at TNA Kew😒

Chris - I know we can speak English because of teachers, but we can't speak German (aka, don't have to) because of soldiers👍
Still can't find the start button though (& currently have no spare time to look for it as I'm battling with 200 pages of "claimed to be instructions" for new 'phone).

I'd love to know where the start starts🤔

I'm afraid that 5 years is the maximum jail time for CARELESS driving involving a death. Dangerous driving involving death could have gone to 11 years. He was uninsured, but regardless, he'll have severe difficulty ever getting car insurance in future so will be high-risk forever😒

I like newspapers referring to "a spokesman", "a source close to the royal family", "a friend of the actress", etc etc etc ...
(aka - here's something I just made up😒).
I'm surprised Huntley lasted so long.

Nottingham killer was not sectioned because of his race, inquiry told Valdo Calocane released in 2020 after mental health staff considered research on over-representation of young black men in detention

Oh dear oh dear oh dear - you ARE sailing close to the "I'm a racist" pedestal which so many will be clamouring to put you on😱
(But you will find "The Guardian" on the next door plinth😂).

It's an enlightening read but it merely reminds the reader of what we already know, - & reinforces the fact that a huge proportion of the public are sycophantic to the N'th degree😒
Some lovely quotes though >

I think this is why DeGaulle hated to British & Americans so much, - embracement at so much French collaboration with the Germans during WW2.

The US electorate may not have a say if the Midterms are suspended in November, - & in any case the rednecks & hillbilies voted him in last time & may do it again.

"In terms if my own financial loss, no one comes close to Truss."
Commiserations. Truss already had a track record of course, - at the Environment Agency. Another place where the Public Prosecutor should have paid attention.
Whatever happened to Akwasi Addo Alfred Kwarteng, - Truss's numbers genius😒

"Noce won, but regretted it:"
The "treatment" of a huge swathe of Germans post WW2 was, I'm convinced, due to the onset of the Cold War & a fear of Soviet influence. National Socialism lived on in Germany way past 1945.

The naming of "Sanctuary Wood" goes way back to the fighting in that area during November 1914, & pre-dates the establishment of the cemetery there.

"... it may cost me more than Liz Truss did."
On the radio a couple of days ago I heard a British politician arguing for people who had been prudent & therefore had savings & assets at retirement age to NOT be eligible for a state pension.
Liz Truss was bad, but far from unique😒

The NZ cross at Factory Corner was derelict post WW1. The NZ gov't were asked if they'd like the cross returned to Aotearoa (at their cost), but they declined.
The cross was therefore burned & the ashes scattered in A.I.F. Burial Ground, Grass Lane. The Longueval site is topographically superior👍

The NZ Memorial at Longueval is "simple" but very elegant. Its position is to my mind the most relevant historically, & the choice of site makes it prominent from all directions. (The alternative was "Factory Corner"). I've always wondered though why they built it so close to those monstrous pylons🤔

If it was an artillery fuse I'd guess that he'd got an intact / unused HE fuse & had managed to set it off, - ie ignited the "gain". But then pulling a pin & a few minutes delay make no sense😒
Pulling a pin points to a grenade, but minutes delay = 😲, & if he was holding it he'd be mincemeat.

there is no mention of a revolver incident.
The one & only first person statement is lengthy & was made to a Major & Corporal of the RAMC at 8th Western General Hospital, Newport, 21/7/16.
That statement was made by none other than Pte 15/323 Alan Fenton, 15th Bn W.Yorks Regt.

Interesting. From the description - especially pulling a pin out, & then a delay of "a few minutes", i can't figure out what kind of device he is talking about🤔

British politicians are probably mainly corrupt to some extent or another. That stretches through "expenses", allowances, PPE, etc etc etc, - right up to deputy PMs forgetting how many properties they own or whether they have paid more than a fraction of the associated taxes.
