A matching image of the great grey owl but switched to black and white. A great grey owl glides over long grass towards the camera. The bird is a large owl with a distinctive grey and white banded facial disc.

Trying to decide if I prefer the black and white or colour image. Any thoughts? #B&W πŸͺΆ

I seem to spend a lot of the winter months watching wildlife documentaries. I can't afford a safari but did head off to Yorkshire Wildlife Park the other day. 🦁🐯

A great spotted woodpecker clings to the side of a tree in the early morning light. The bird is predominantly white with black cap and black strap lines running from the back of its head around the face and neck. The front of the wings are black and black and white striped at the ends. The bird has a bright red rump and also has a patch of red at the back of the head.

A Gannet sat in the grass atop of Bempton cliffs with the sea in the background. The Gannet is a large sea bird with white plumage and a slightly peachy orange head. It has a silver grey beak and piercing blue eyes.

A male Bearded Reedling clings to the top of reed where it has been eating the seeds. They change from an insect diet to a seed diet during the winter months and can be seen feeding on the tops. They pulp the seeds in their stomach by also swallowing grit. The male is a small bird with a orangey brown body with black and white marks on the wings. It has a blue grey head and a distinctive black moustache. It has a yellow beak and a yellow eye and black pupil.

It's that time of year again, not Xmas, the other one. Beardie time πŸ˜‰ πŸͺΆ Taken at RSPB St Aidans last weekend.

The image shows a juvenile Sparrowhawk is perched on a lichen covered wooden post with a blurred wooded background catching early morning golden light. The bird is a small raptor with mottled brown back and head with a pale breast and underside with thin brown bars. It has bright yellow legs and sharp talons. The bird has a distinctive white eye stripe over the top of its eye which is bright yellow with a black pupil at the centre.

A Red deer stag lays in the green grass floor. He is looking forward with a full antlers and a diffused background of brown gold leaves.

I think I've missed the Red deer rut at Royal Studley this year. Everything seemed to be settled and sorted this morning.

The picture shows a European Kingfisher perched on a thin branch with a blurred background of reeds. The Kingfisher is facing away and looking to the left. It has bright blue feathers running down the centre of its back and flecks on its head. It has darker blue feathers on the wings and has bright orange chest and cheeks. The bird has a long black beak and eyes with a white throat and white band at the back of the neck.
