A salient point here: Baunov says Russia's demands are modeled on the 1960 Cyprus arrangement, in which Greece, Turkey, and UK were named guarantors with the right of armed intervention. (Turkey exercised that right in 1974, annexing a third of the island.) In other words, no Korea-style DMZ.

I'm seeing people mistakenly claim the gun photo was posted before today, but its just how Google sometimes dates images based on the original date of the thread its posted in, not when it was posted. The photo was posted an hour ago in this 5 day old thread

Federal law enforcement agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Jan. 24 according to local police officials. DHS told Fox News that the man was “armed with a gun”. A video of the shooting appears to show that a gun was taken from the man before the first shot was fired. x.com/BillMelugin_...

Turning your closest cultural and economic partner into an enemy has been suicidal for Russia. Surely this will turn out well. When do we start hearing “For eight years the fascist Carney government has been bombing innocent English speakers in Alberta”?

The power outages and freezing conditions in Ukraine right now are insane. Greenland news and war “coverage fatigue” not giving it the presence in headlines it deserves. The humanitarian impact is absolutely staggering.

Sorokin is so difficult, but so rewarding! Day of the Oprichnik is one of the funniest (and darkest) novels I’ve ever read. I recommend using the Max Lawton translations

Deploying essentially all of your available resources to terrorize one city at a time, in a very large country with many big cities scattered across a continent, is not a sound strategy for regime consolidation.

Oh it’s deadly serious, but where is the political leadership organizing against this absolutely suicidal course of action?

There are a few U.S. companies actually testing a reverse-engineered Shahed! (I assume it costs 10x the original)

What was the Russian summer offensives in Ukraine in about? Did it achieve its goals based on its own merits? What can be expected from the Russian military's actions through the remainder of 2025 and into early 2026?

My latest article looking at the results of Russia's summer offensive. I argue the Sumy operation was a bit of a failure given the amount of elite forces involved, but Russia continues making progress in Donetsk Oblast. ridl.io/the-results-...

There is no reason for armed troops to be in the nations capital. Full stop. Panhandlers in DuPont Circle are not a reason to do this. Are we looking at another Kent State?

If you are a hostile intelligence agency, you can get more out of a well-aimed rock at the right place and time today than entire Cold War expenditure of the KGB combined.

It's like a nesting doll of civil-military crises. Just today:

1. Head of DIA fired
2. Trump threatens to deploy Army to Chicago + NYC
3. Blurring of police + military in DC
4. Use of FBI in political attack on Bolton
5. Goons in DC curtailing basic civil rights

I'm unhappy to report that Huntington did not tell the military what to do if they were coopted into prosecuting American citizens on American soil
