On this day in 1984 the *original* Sun of the *original* #USL won the first (and only) United Soccer League title by defeating the *original* Houston Dynamo(s) 3-2 in PKs after a 1-1 draw in game 3 of the title series at Lockhart Stadium.

The following year, Laredo got revenge.
The Strikers took an early 2-0 lead, but GK Lionel Brown was sent off for handling the ball outside the box in the 20th minute.
Laredo got a red of their own in the 81st, but an 85' goal and a 90' PK gave the Heat a comeback upset victory.

Laredo came to FTL two years in a row in the U.S. Open Cup, in 2013 & 2014, and both matches were wild.
In 2013, the Strikers advanced in a thriller - Matt Glaeser made two saves in an 8-round penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in which Laredo equalized late *after* going down to 10 men.

#FTLUTD takes on Laredo Heat in their opening game of the #USL2 playoffs this Friday at 4PM in Sarasota!
The winner will go on to face the winner of the Sarasota-Jax match that will follow that evening.
The Laredo Heat have a history with Fort Lauderdale, so this is a fun matchup!
