I write about policing and urban design in my book. Policing makes us less safe, but urban infrastructure and design can certainly make us more safe!

Amazing night with @sandela.bsky.social and @nolore.bsky.social! I finally got to see two huge influences on my politics and understanding of the world in real life.

07.02.2026 04:08 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 1

I talk about this in my book, too! This is what we were talking about in 2020.

I also recommend Devon Carbado's book Unreasonable for folks who want to trace the way this was all prepped in the courts.

Police have been chipping away at 4th amendment protections and accountability measures for years. That's what gives us everything ICE is doing, from racial profiling to warrantless searches and seizures.

04.02.2026 06:26 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It feels like dissonance because it IS! ICE are police. Same mission. Similar tactics. You can't logically accept one and not the other.

04.02.2026 06:26 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

These fools can't go harder than this because then they'd either have to admit they were wrong about policing in general, or admit that they're absolutely fine with the way police are protected doing everything ICE does, targeted at communities that don't matter to them.

04.02.2026 06:26 β€” πŸ‘ 22    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Anyway, I talk about that in my book. Cops love body cams for a reason. They don't do anything for accountability but do provide more toys

03.02.2026 17:34 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You see how quickly this normally obstinate administration went to outfit ICE with body cams? That's because they are ultimately a surveillance tool for the law enforcement agency outfitted with them. Not a tool of accountability. And research shows they can ultimately increase police violence.

Breaking down the 'myth’ of policing with Sandy Hudson In a powerful discussion, Sandy Hudson advocates for police abolition. Discover her insights on policing and community-led safety resources.

On In Bed with the Elephant, @sandela.bsky.social explains how early encounters with police shaped her politics β€” and why expanding #police budgets fuels trauma, inequality, and a growing surveillance state.

It’s not just @sandela.bsky.social Sandy Hudson’s razor-sharp analysis putting policing in context that’s so valuable, it’s her clear and convincing focus that we can actually change things. Listen to this and follow her on the Sandy and Nora podcast, you won’t regret it ❀️

Yesterday there were a handful of contradictory headlines about whether Canada is or isn't sending troops to Denmark. Would be nice to know which is true.

For sure, but cops are protected and operate with impunity because governments have scaffolded them forever. Murderous policing is a part of all policing! We can stop it by taking away their tools and their power, ie resources, ie defunding them

09.01.2026 21:35 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Prime example of why body cams don't work and you must defund the police (incl. ICE) to stop them from doing what they're meant to do, which is use violence to control particular populations for the benefit of the wealthy/powerful and to maintain social stratifications

I hope all the people who did their darndest to create a "we went too far on policing" narrative in the post-2020 whitelash see that their blathering apologism justifies every fascist thing ICE, the FBI, the DEA, and other law enforcement agencies are doing rn.

Episode 356 – The view on Venezuela from Canada In this episode, Sandy and Nora talk about the US’ war on Venezuela, the sham charges against Nicolas Maduro and what Canadians should be paying attention to.

This is a good, if depressing and scary, episode from @sandela.bsky.social and @nolore.bsky.social

This "law enforcement" justification for the clearly illegal strike on Venezuela is absolutely outrageous and should be reported as such. The death toll is now **80 people** and the **American dictatorial gov't** is like "this was just a simple arrest coming from an indictment, wym?" Unfuckingreal

An image of Mark Carney's tweet reading "One of the first actions taken by Canada’s new government in March 2025 was to impose additional sanctions on NicolΓ‘s Maduro’s brutally oppressive and criminal regime β€” unequivocally condemning his grave breaches of international peace and security, gross and systematic human rights violations, and corruption. Canada has not recognised the illegitimate regime of Maduro since it stole the 2018 election. The Canadian government therefore welcomes the opportunity for freedom, democracy, peace, and prosperity for the Venezuelan people.

Canada has long supported a peaceful, negotiated, and Venezuelan-led transition process that respects the democratic will of the Venezuelan people. In keeping with our long-standing commitment to upholding the rule of law, sovereignty, and human rights, Canada calls on all parties to respect international law. We stand by the Venezuelan people’s sovereign right to decide and build their own future in a peaceful and democratic society."

Carney's statement is finally out. Apparently we "welcome the opportunity for freedom and democracy" through authoritarian, imperialist, illegal military operations. Elbows so low we're squatting at this point:
