🌍🌏 Red-flanked Bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus) The Red-flanked Bluetail is a small, shy member of the Old World flycatcher family. Males have a vibrant blue back, head, and tail, with a white throat and eyebrow, and distinctive orange-red flanks. Females and juveniles are browner with a duller blue tail and orange flanks. They breed in dense, coniferous forests across northern Asia and parts of Europe, migrating to southern and southeastern Asia for the winter. A tern soars through the top of the frame holding a fish in a long sharp beak. Lower in the frame, a second tern takes flight to compete for the meal. A third tern watches passively from a perch on a vertical wooden pole. The birds are white with black caps and dark or orange beaks. Their wings are narrow and pointed. They seem to be built for speed and maneuverability.
