A few more shots of yesterday’s Cattle Egret at WWT Llanelli. Fascinating watching it pick insects directly off the cattle before enjoying a march through the Black-tailed Godwits. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birds #birdsoftheworld @birdsinwales.bsky.social

🌍 Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus)

The Lilac-breasted Roller is a spectacularly coloured bird with a lilac throat and breast, a turquoise belly, and brilliant blue wings visible in flight. Found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, it prefers open woodlands and savannas. Known for its acrobatic courtship displays, the bird perches on high vantage points to spot insects and small animals on the ground before swooping down to catch its prey. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Two subspecies are recognized.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

The Osprey is a Bird Without Borders, as they're found on every continent except Antarctica, and can travel freely between all countries without repercussion. This surprisingly also includes the United States.

🌍🌏 Red-flanked Bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus)

The Red-flanked Bluetail is a small, shy member of the Old World flycatcher family. Males have a vibrant blue back, head, and tail, with a white throat and eyebrow, and distinctive orange-red flanks. Females and juveniles are browner with a duller blue tail and orange flanks. They breed in dense, coniferous forests across northern Asia and parts of Europe, migrating to southern and southeastern Asia for the winter. They are often seen hopping on the forest floor or low branches, flicking their tail. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Wheatear perched on lichen patched limestone rocks.

A late evening trip to Rhossili was rewarded with three Wheatear down on the beach towards Tears Point along with a pair of Chough. Quiet out at sea other than a passing Fulmar and a handful of Gannets. Far too many people for my liking. #birdingWales #birds #UKWildlife #birdsoftheworld

A tern soars through the top of the frame holding a fish in a long sharp beak. Lower in the frame, a second tern takes flight to compete for the meal. A third tern watches passively from a perch on a vertical wooden pole. The birds are white with black caps and dark or orange beaks. Their wings are narrow and pointed. They seem to be built for speed and maneuverability.
