A value between 2 and 3 bicycles. But then do the same thing with the time graph, for example (2, $30) could be in 2 hours you make $30, then look at 3hr etc. Can you work for 2.5hrs?

Maybe have 2 graphs, one with time on the x-axis and one with bicycles on the x-axis (y can be whatever). Examine some of the data points, ex (2,50) means 2 bicycles cost $50 to rent (or whatever). Then ask about a few other points. Can you rent 2.5 bicycles? Why/why not? So there's not really...

That's cool! Where do you find these problem sets?

Had a blast at #CPMTC2025 in San Diego presenting about #thinkingclassroom and @cpmmath.bsky.social and talking & learning with other math educators. Special thanks to @pgliljedahl for stopping by! @btcthinks.bsky.social

Sorry, the strategy is complex instruction, and you can find some of the research online, but the book is Designing Group Work. a.co/d/6jNX89T

Rigor Is More Than Bigger Numbers: Let’s Create Mathematical Conflict When we talk about rigor in math education, we all recognize that it’s something we strive for in our classrooms.

This week, I’m honored to present at the NCTM Spring Conference in Kansas City alongside my colleague, Oscar Perales, Ed.D. I wrote a short post about one of our sessions. #NCTMKC25 #iteachmath kurtsalisbury.substack.com/p/rigor-is-m...

Great ideas were generated and then I gave them the list of questions and common biases to match/label. Great ideas and conversations, even hearing ideas from students that normally hang back during group time.

In #mathstoday with Math 3, talking about bias in surveys. Made a tweak by showing just the survey questions first and having students brainstorm how there could be bias informally. #iteachmath

Yes! Love that post! We've been doing some visual patterns already, but maybe I'll do that for the next one.

Great dot talk today (only their second time) from my HS foundations class! #MathsToday #iteachmath

Oh is that one of the prequels? I forget all the names, lol. I love Sanderson. The Stormlight Archives is a series (epic fantasy-really long books). It's fantastic! If you want to start with something smaller though a lot of people start with his Mistborn series.

Oh nice! I've read his Riyria books! Sooo good! I'll have to check that one out. Currently doing a reread of the Stormlight Archice by Brandon Sanderson before the next book comes out in Dec.

Hi new maths teacher followers! One of the best things we do here is share little bits of our maths lessons using #MathsToday. It doesn’t have to be an incredible new idea - just a little positive snippet from your day. Please join in, I’d love to know what you’ve been up to today!

Cool! Sounds similar to how a few of if in my dept are working. We currently don't have a math lab/support class though... no room right now in the schedule. Hopefully soon though.

I'd love to hear more details about this! What grade? And does that mean you're doing this each day during math class or is it organized differently? And are you using number talks or anything in particular?

I agree! My curriculum (CPM) often uses stories and even when I think they're corny the (HS) kids still like them. Looked at the website but doesn't seem like they have much for HS. :(

We were able to compare methods during consolidation and when one approach might be better than the others. (The graph group actually used desmos and then just sketched it on their board.)

My HS foundations (HSM) class is working on multiple representations and linear patterns, so today did the cc3 task with the "Big C." They rocked it! Groups even used different methods on their own to verify if (16,99) was a solution.

We switched! I started out in MS for 10 years and am currently teaching HS. And I agree group work is tricky. The book "Complex Instruction" was really helpful to me and now I also do Building Thinking Classrooms.
