The discourse about Beyonce and Kendrick’s performances has taught me one thing. There are people, on both sides, who are uncomfortable when Black Americans identity as AMERICANS. I think you should unpack that.

Black Americans have a reputation as a “homeless” people and we are not. This country has been our home for centuries and we have created its culture (the parts you like anyway). A country’s people are not its government, we understand that for everyone else but us.
