WIP update: Added another 861 words to this morning's sprint for a total of 1458 written today for THIAW. This brings my word count to 7474 of 10k. I'm *still* not at the halfway point yet (πŸ™ƒ), but I'm close now. Just a couple more scenes to go. #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

My good friend @rumorsofselander.bsky.social, who I've known for almost two decades, is now on Bluesky! She is a short story writer with a passion for fairy tale retellings. Please give her a warm welcome to the site, and consider following her as well!

πŸ˜‚ To answer your question a little more seriously, I don't think I would enjoy writing a story with a tragic ending for the MCs. I love my fictional children too much to wreak too much havoc upon them.

"The one with the heart" is not always a requirement in my stories.

The cover of the book The Map and the Territory, which depicts two people standing back to back. One of them is a tall Black man in elaborate wizardly robes, and the other is a short woman with brown skin who wears practical clothes for adventuring.

For World Book Day, check out The Map and The Territory, my post-apocalyptic picaresque about a cartographer and a wizard trying to get home in a shattered world haunted by a death goddess.

Technically speaking, all of my stories have (or will have) happy endings for the MCs. That does not mean they are happy endings for all the other characters. :)

I really enjoyed this thoughtful editorial on genre. It reflects a lot of my opinions and struggles with genres, especially as a writer.

I enjoyed this article! Thanks for writing it; it reflects a lot of my own thoughts and struggles with genre, as a writer more so than a reader.

This is it, 100%! And it's because I know people in real life who aren't well read and too quickly/easily believe that whatever's in a book must be a reflection of the author. I can deal with Internet strangers being wrong (like you said, just block them/avoid reader spaces), but people I know?? πŸ’€

There's still time to sign up as an ARC reader for THE DEVOURING, my Lovecraftian horror feat. John Wick-style action and married villain protagonists. Not convinced? These alpha & beta reader comments might change your mind.

The week has been rough, but I've successfully written 6k of 10k words for a novella I'm drafting this month. I think it's going to be closer to 20k by the time I'm finished, but hopefully not much longer than that.

I'm new to publishing my stories, so I'm still actively working to get over the fear. I try to write my books as if I'm the only one who's going to read them, and it helps that I have supportive friends who love to read the things I write, too. I tell myself the naysayers are not my target audience.

Character and setting studies are so helpful! I love writing them, especially to get a feel for the main characters and their relationship dynamic.
